  • From a half bottle. More advanced than I would have expected, even from a half bottle. Smoky nose of black fruit and tar. Still tannic, but the fruit is not holding up. I hope this was an off bottle.

  • After my first bottle I wasn't going to take a chance pouring this for anyone else so I had it with some lamb chops for dinner. Well, they could not have been more different. The beautiful bouquet the first bottle had was absent but it did not fall apart quickly either.
Closed nose, quite tannic, fruit leaning towards cherry, hard as nails. It softens a bit with air but even one day 2 it represents itself as one's worst fears of what a classic 1996 Barolo might taste like if opened at age 24. Hold. And then hold some more.

  • Opened as part of our first blind zoom tasting from 3 oz glass bottle.

When I decanted this and poured it into the bottles it has a pure and beautiful nose and a tiny pour showed fruit redolent of raspberries.

Unfortunately when poured from the small glass bottles it has that really cheesy funky offputting nose you sometimes get with old Barolo. I kept hoping it would blow off but it didn't over the course of the Zoom call.

Quite good on the palate if you could get past the nose. Still tannic but a fine match with the steak and mushrooms I cooked to go with it. But disappointing overall and I'm not certain whether to serve my remaining bottle immediately after opening or give it a really long decant.

Purchased as part of the distributor close out about 20 years ago.

  • Truffle pop-up and good wine (Sabatino's Truffles on 54th Street): Yum yum yum. From a magnum. This producer was one of my favorites during our trip to Piedmont last month, but we had mostly tried the son's wines so interested to see what the father did. I am incredibly impressed by the finesse of these wines. Very precise, very crisp, very elegant. Lots of black cherry. Some spice. Some herbal. One of my favorites of the night. I kept wanting to go back to it.

  • No rating. Very sorry to report, and it could have just been a bad bottle, but this was red colored water. There was nothing, and I mean nothing, to it. It was not terrible, corked or anything bad, just really thin and without any body. Have one more bottle so will open soon and see if it was the bottle or where the wine is now. Darn, paired with a great meal out and did not get a drinkable wine.
