I thought this would be a good wine to pair with an Italian pot roast. The wines black fruit and leathery notes were a very nice compliment to the dish. There was a surprising hint of heat on the finish - something I rarely find on Kirk's wines. It's definitely a bigger wine which worked on this pairing.

Bring a big cali syrah (My place, Chicago IL): nose: on the dark and jammy side with rich tones of black fruits, dark red cherries and some liqueur tones. While it is very large it isn't completely overblown.
taste: Full bodied with a jammy side to it. The tones of liqueur, spices, and black fruits are rich with some chewy tannins to them.
overall: This wasn't as overblown as some of the other syrahs. Still, it was a bit too jammy and extremely ripe.

An Evening of Californian Syrah (Keith's House): Had some nice meaty undertones, but was mostly dark black fruit, mocha and warm spices. Not bad, but never really had a second gear or the subtle elegance I typically look for.

really solid wine with blueberry, mocha, and some vanilla tones. Massive backbone that can last for years but also makes it enjoyable now. Gritty tannin, bacon fat, and very lush mid palate in this wine. I have always felt Venge makes some of the best Napa Syrahs, and this lived up to the hype. Great wine for a very affordable price
