  • I’ve pretty much written off the domestic chard category, but there are exceptions, Brick House, Domaine Drouhin’s Arthur, Slight of Hand’s “Enchantress” comes to mind, and now I have to add Maison Bleue to this short list. The clear hue is a good indicator that little or no new wood is used (I would bet the farm is this was done in 100% stainless), and the first taste quickly confirms my hypothesis, as one kindly greeted with a freshly halved green apple, chlorophyll, and lots of oceanic stuff. The medium weight of the wines texture gives this away as a Chardonnay as opposed to say a Riesling, and while not quite up there with a nervy high end Chablis, the acidity and minerals felt on the medium length finish certainly let one know they are of a kindred spirit. This was purchased for $17, and please prove me wrong that there is a better domestic chard at this price point 

  • Blind CA Cult Cab Tasting (Snohomish, WA): Tasted blind. The nose had peach and pear aromas with a perfume note. The palate had pear, apple and pineapple flavors with very nice acidity. This was tasted next to an 08 Dauvissat and it held it's own very well. Quite a nice wine for the price.

  • The nose is full of mineral notes, crisp peaches, and metal. It's clean on the palate with a crisp texture that delivers without the ripping acidity that I was expecting. Pear flavors are full and clean while even acidity dries things out later. The wine is straightforward and well balanced. 89-
