Wine of the weekend and easily beat the '09 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Volte we drank just before it. Splash decant, immediate serve during dinner with grilled filet. Color garnet with lots of black hues, medium-full body. Big complex bouquet of fresh tobacco leaf, leather, coffee, spices, and crushed tomato. Excellent depth of ripe blackberries, brighter sour cherries, tobacco, coffee and black pepper on the tongue. At peak and really showing beautiful nuances of all three varietals in the blend - sangiovese, merlot, and syrah. Nice freshness and vibrancy to the fruit, lengthy finish of blackberry sauce and earth. Did not get the alcohol/heat noted by another reviewer. Medium-plus chewy tannins suggest this has a few years of life left. Wish I had bought a case instead of just two bottles. Excellent value at 25.

Really dark, garnet core with a dark ruby rim. Nice nose, intense and youthful aromas of red cherry, blueberry, dark chocolate, leather, mushrooms, some animal funk as well. The wine had a high acidity, medium + tannins, blueberry, plum, and black pepper on the palate. The length is medium and the alcohol seems really high. It says on the label that it is 13.5% but it seems like a 15% wine, which threw me off a little bit. Other than that it's a really nice wine.

Cherry, pepper and blackberry on the nose. Smooth tannins with a lengthy finish. Outstanding!
