Somewhat spicy upon opening that quickly fades, losing complexity as it decanted for an hour. An ok wine, but generally unimpressive. A table wine for those that just need a red. It might have been better when young.

Popped and poured about 1 hour prior to dinner. Reviewed after dinner. Nose shows lots of secondary aromas, stewed red fruit, hints of pepper, honestly not a lot of complexity. Palate is smooth, silky, tending toward secondary flavors. I'm not getting a lot of syrah markers. There's stewed red fruit, hints of pepper on the finish and it's a decent wine. Definitely enjoyed it but I think my expectations were much higher than this showed tonight. Rather disappointing. Stored since purchase at release in a 57 degree cellar.

This one of the most unique Betz wines I have had, and I have had many. Intense crushed violets, soy sauce, and fresh saline is presented on a base of rich earth and black cherry. The wine is dark and brooding, but somehow elegant and understated at the same time. The Syrah typicity pushed to the background, but the floral lift in combination with other elements makes for a really compelling experience. It will be fascinating to see how this ages. I have a bottle in magnum for my son's birth year that I might open in 10-15 years.

Black currant, plum, black cherry fruit. Not much in they way of savory notes- but the fruit is so luscious it doesn't matter. Smooth and plush on the finish, the tannins are totally integrated. Very nice- the best Washington Syrah we've tried.

(Betz Family Winery La Cote Patriarche Syrah Yakima Valley) Stains the glass with a purple tinge. The nose pops on this wine with bacon fat, floral notes, and earth. A rich, layered wine with bright acidity, chewy tannins and concentrated fruit flavors. 100% Syrah. Red Willow Vineyard. 14.5% alcohol. Sampled at 68 degrees

Deep, dark and really quite enjoyable. Not overly oaked, which I had some concern about.
