  (GUARDIOLA Passopisciaro Bianco) Trinoro Dear Friends, This wine makes a lasting imprint – so much so, that I'm putting it out on a Sunday night (while the impression is still fresh from last night). While it is certainly not inexpensive, compared to Bordeaux of the same price strata, this wine could run circles around many of them (at my dinner event last night, the wine was the consensus #1 on a table full of high-mark Bordeaux...and it was only starting to hint at its layers of chameleon-like intrigue after six hours open). Think of this as Tertre Roteboeuf meets Ducru Beaucaillou meets Masseto and you will be close: VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a phantom slice of idiosyncratic Italy – one we rarely come across. This parcel has arrived directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance: 2008 Tenuta di Trinoro (Sarteano/Tuscany)- (IWC95)(WA96+) ...we also received this unusual and interesting white wine from Franchetti’s Mt. Etna property. Made from 100% Chardonnay, I would love to see this as a blind entrant in a Burgundy or “Chardonnay of terroir” tasting (my guess is that few would be able to place its origin - in a good way). Compared to other examples of the grape in the $25+ range around the world, this is more than worth the experiment. Here is Antonio Galloni’s review of the 2007 (the last vintage to be reviewed) - I’ve had the 2007 several times and the 2009 is a bigger wine but still retains its level of lime/ash-tinged volcanic detail that will bring a smile to many of your faces.
