  • Dang I love the Triple Wood. Down to the last few sips of the bottle and quite sad that this is no longer available. Sigh...

  • From another 0.1 l left over from 2017. Don't laugh, I know this is NAS, but I compared it directly to a Laphroaig 18 (which I will rate in a few weeks, and highly at that, needless to say), so this isn't some irrational enthusiasm. Too bad they stopped the product, and also, the distillery manager has just left. And I am not sure their best nose and cask manager is still working. So perhaps this level will never return, especially at that price. I am glad I have 4 bottles left.

  • I have to re-evaluate this last bottle because I just used up a little left over from it, compared it directly against the Ardbeg Uigeadail and was enthusiastic again because it clearly if only marginally won (due to its greater spaciousness, drier nobility and some dead nettle flower floral touch on the nose where the Ardbeg - will be rated in a few weeks - was a touch too sweet in comparison). For me this whisky just hits dead center.

  • Laphroaig Triple Wood versus Laphroaig Quarter Cask

Nose of the latter fresher, more citrusy, that of the former warmer, nuttier (some sesame) and tweedier. However, on the palate, this one is drier, even though warmer, more rounded, paradoxically even more vanilla than the purely ex-bourbon matured Quarter Cask in which the peat is more aggressive. So you have a milder peat than usual in Laphroaig behind vanilla, bergamotte, tweed and wet dog which is a combination I completely adore.

But this bottle is rather reserved on the nose and not as overwhelmingly rich as I remember my last bottle. I guess one should try to catch an expression when it first comes out.
