I've always loved the wines of Dom. Tempier, and La Tourtine is the proverbial canine's testicles, alongside La Migoua and Cabassaou. Crazy nose of horse sweat and saddle leather (apologies for the excessive equine metaphors) and bear's breath (here's a ursid one). It's not brett. It's the deep animal essence of Mourvèdre. All the minerals - like a storm on rocks. Explosive. Tiny hints of herb/garrigue - thyme and oregano lashed by the Mistral. But pristine purity and phenomenal density. This really is sensational. WOTN in spite of the other wines today.

Sérieux voire austère à l’ouverture, on carafe.

Mourvèdre (80%), with Grenache (10%) and Cinsault (10%), 14.5% vol. From a magnum, double decanted a few hours before dinner and served at about 16°C.
Plum and cherry with an earthy touch, good freshness, full and long. Very classic style with some elegance.
A decant of 1 to 2 hours is recommended and do not serve it too warm, else it gets slightly disjointed. Drink now or within the next 6 to 8 years.
