Brought home from a trip to Portugal and cellared until tonight. A very enjoyable cabernet. The grapes were planted in the early to mid '70's. Tannins have melted and there is a fair amount of acidity present. What comes to mind is a slightly sour dark rasberry fruit with plenty of tobaco and grape leaf. I know we hear about a lot of recent good developments about Portugese wines but this wine (and others I have had) demonstrates to me that they have been making very good dry reds for many years - even with non-native grapes.
