  • Jewel's 1st Birthday Party (University Club): Drank over 2 hours from magnums.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of leather, dried leaves/compost earthiness, raisins, dark plums, slight roasted herbs. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium- acidity, medium+ alcohol, dry medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of roasted herbs, raisins, dark plums, dried leaves, compost earthiness, and leather. Long finish.
Good quality. Enjoyable and an enjoyable drink at a value for money price point. However, drink up within next 1 year. Acidity not holding up well and quite tertiary already.

  • This ripasso is definitely value for money. Made from the same grapes as the Amarone. The term “Ripasso” sounds like and in fact means “repassed.” That refers to its production process whereby regular, fermented Valpolicella is added to a cask containing the skins and lees left over from fermented Amarone wines. The process of adding (or “repassing”) the lighter Valpolicella wine over the remainders of the “bigger” Amarone wine imparts additional color, texture and flavor to the Valpolicella wine. Also, it induces a second fermentation of the wine that increases the wine’s alcoholic content.

The le Morente ripasso is inky black in colour reminscent of the darkness hr of the night. Nose of floral bouquet which opens up in the glass with some gentle swirling. On the palate there is sweet red fruit with background shadings of cola, root beer and candy. The wine is fruity and sweet in the mouth with a medium-long finish and soft supply tannins.

It’s a wine with sufficient structure and body to go with hearty foods such as stews, braised red meats, game and aged cheeses.

A good alternative to the Amarone, for a normal dinner night.

  • Blind test from Davyd. Apparently already Day 2 sealed with vacuum pump.
Very dark purple colour almost opaque. Strong intense nose of dried ripe fruits, sun-dried flowers, and dried leaves/compost. Earthy on the palate, with raisins, dark cherries, and a bit of chocolate. Intense on the palate also, but yet smooth mouth-feel and a nice long finish. However, prolonged sipping on this kind of gave a "gelat” feeling (Malay expression to denote something that is too rich, to the extent that one is put off by it).
Managed to deduce that this was a Ripasso/Amarone.

  • Popped this with a few of my colleagues. It had a lavish flowery nose of dried fruits, raisins, dates, and on the palate, a mouth-coating effect, yet smooth and easy, hints of dates, raisins, and brown sugar, with a short-medium finish. Elegant and complex. We really loved it! With the cheddar, the dried fruit flavours were enhanced. This was like a modern classy lady with lots of perfume. An awesome wine at great value.

  • Dark purple colour. Aired in decanter for 2 hours before tasting.
The wine opened up with a strong sweet nose of sun-dried flowers and fruity berries.
Strong and intense on the palate. 7 years old and already developed complexity. Raisins and blueberries tasted. Sweet and slight sour tang reminiscent of Spanish Tempranillo. Alcohol content of 14% was evident. Intensity lasts to the finish. A quality wine at a very palatable price.
