  • From 75cl. Ripe Galia melon scent and texture on entry; definitely 6 months past its peak, a riesling-like fruitiness and some acidity remain. In 6 months this will be dead as ditchwater. 84P and falling.

  • First experience with Albarino. Drank with a seafood paella. Very light bright yellow in color. Clear. Medium plus viscosity in the glass. Somewhat muted nose of pear, honey, and wet straw. Medium plus body, medium acidity, full mouthfeel, while not overpowering, the alcohol is definitely noticeable. More pear and honey on the palate, with mineral, peach, and a little fresh cut grass. Short mineral finish.

  • A good bottle; some honeyed richness and a wonderful clean finish. Perfect with grilled white fish. 88P

  • {cork, 13%} A cork saturated to within a few millimetres of the top, and which was a very loose fit inside the bottle worried me somewhat. But the wine looked OK, a pale straw/yellow with a flash of green. The nose is slightly developing, very steely, with wet stone & shellfish aromas. On the palate there are faint hints of gewurz, with a rosewater tinge to the flavours; but on the whole it's rather like licking a stainless-steel tank. It's pleasant enough, but I find the acid a little soft to complete the picture; there's this steeliness to the flavours which isn't backed up by the structure. For sheer flavour it scores medium-bodied weight, and although it coats the tongue quite evenly the finish is disappointingly short. So, a curate's egg. Given the seal, I'd say drink soon (now!) although it seems to me a wine that cries out for a screwcap seal.

  • A superficial vintage of a wine I normally enjoy much more. The superlative ratings in the Spanish wine press (98P Proensa; 93P Penin) seem completely bananarama to me on the basis of this bottle. Odd iodine - sticking plaster smell, watery entry with a touch of ripe canteloupe melon, slight CO2 action, long but not entirely pleasant melony finish. 85P
