Much better than the 1970 Castello di Neive Santo Stefano which I brought, this '78 saw much more air and was much richer as a result. Here, a silky mouthfeel with serious depth of fruit, round and deep, distinct cherry fruit on the palate, round and complete. Oh, so seamless and complete. Old Barolo at Mas Farmhouse, NYC.

After a few disappointing, and most likely flawed, bottles of 1985's, this was a pleasant surprise. Fragrant, this has the rose petals, strawberry fruit, and a hint of spearmint. Medium-light body, there's some real nice acidity, subtle red fruit, and fine tannins. Delicate & balanced. A real treat!

Fabulous bottle. Fill into the neck. Cork slightly depressed and had to be removed with an Ah So pull. Initial bricking becomes darker garnet with air. Classic Santo Stefano, with that spicy crushed red berry fruit, mineral, iron, fine and fully resolved tannins. A pleasure to drink. Several notches above the 85, 89, and 90 in my view.
