  • Chambertin / Clos de Beze Dinner (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): A nicely mature CDV. This bottle was supposed to have been brought to our "Clos" dinner the month before, but I brought another one by mistake - it was therefore the odd extra amongst the Chambertin Clos de Beze wines this time round. The nose showed a slightly green, herbacious edge to otherwise attractive notes of dark berry fruit and lovely spice aromas, along with a bassier earthy nose. It felt a touch rustic on the palate, with the remants of chewy tannins layered under otherwise full, round notes of ripe berry fruit infused with gentle drifts of spice and svaoury meatiness. This was a satisfying mouthful, with good acidity keeping it lively, and a nice amount of complexity to boot. A surprisingly pleasing wine. Unlike the 1993 Faiveley Beze, which still had a lot in its trunk still. this was drinking just slightly past its peak I would think.
