Opened 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, pale, youthful, quite leggy, mainly orchard fruit, reductive, heightened citrus, some stone, no steel, complex, fresh nose, medium bodied, long, persistent, underlying concentration and drive if tad on acid side for vintage, more PYCM than CC, upside, 10 years. F+ (18).

Corton-Charlemagne and Morey-St-Denis Grand Cru Dinner (Formento's - Chicago IL): Open 20-30 minutes before serving, but decanting would have helped. slightly reductive and slightly backward start, this ever-so-gradually opened up. Lots of stone fruit with apple in the middle. Firm from the middle to the finish, which slowly expanded as it opened up. 3 points tonight, 94+ point potential.

Strikingly creamy texture makes this Corton Charlemagne amazingly drinkable and delicious in spite of healthy acids. Still pale, young and healthy. Not at all austere although there is good mineralogy, perhaps due to oak and broad vintage character. Not classical but satisfying if you don’t insist on the textbook version.

For old times sake: Beautiful and smoky bouquet. Fireworks. On the palate a full bodied wine with a lot of citrus acidity, fireworks again, minerals and white fruits. Great length and overall a fantastic wine.

Drinking great once again. Stony rich fruit profile with serious verve and nice subtle complexity. Fresh and taught, feels like upside remains likely.
