Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 90 points

  • Dark ruby colour, with a lot of sediment (from a supermarket product, with no warning on the label). Decanted for 2 hours but it opened up within minutes to produce, a powerful, chocolatey, caramelised nose of burnt toffee and butterscotch. There was also a perfumed hint to it, perhaps due to it being slightly spiritous (though not overpowering enough to make the bouquet unbalanced). These flavours continued onto the palate as well as developing a dry roasted nutty taste, as well as being a lot dryer and less viscous than the nose leads you to believe. Perhaps a little more straightforward on the palate with the alcohol dominating (as with so many Ports), but the finish lasted several minutes. ***
