Community Tasting Notes (1) Avg Score: 88 points

  • Served with Steak Pizziola and Buttered Linguini as the fifth course on a 7 course tasting menu. The group judged each wine first by itself, then again assessing how it paired with the food.

The Wine – Decanted for two hours prior to serving. Initial nose showed some leather and tobacco. Medium to full bodied. The age is showing in the glass as the color has browned, and a fair amount of bricking. Smokey on the front palate, then giving way to an almost tawny port flavor. All in all a very enjoyable wine that has started downhill. If you have it, drink ASAP.

The Pairing – Unfortunately the tannins are all gone, and it simply was overpowered by the steak, especially with the sauce. Pairing Grade – C-.
