Terroirist Blogger Tasting #3: SRP: $20. A monolithic, artificial smelling nose of purple Gatorade, chocolate cake icing, anise, and herbs. On the palate, it’s well-balanced and well-structured, but just plain awkward.

This deep crimson wine was splash-decanted and serially tasted over two hours. The nose shows moderately intense aromas of red cherries, coriander and clove. Medium-bodied on the palate, with low-to-medium acidity, medium sweet tannins and well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.3%). The red fruit component is pleasant and dominates the palate, similar to grenadine in a child's mouth. The middle palate struggles a bit, but the resurrected finish is medium in length and quite smooth. This wine is hard not to like. The 90 point threshold is not challenged only by virtue of the suboptimal middle palate. Drink now-12/18.

One of the best cabs in this price range that I've had. Nice finish...went great with cheese and light apps at recent party.

Decanted 4 hours and never really opened up. Drank a bottle over the summer and enjoyed it more the second day. Still nothing special.
