Another great wine dinner with Bernard Burtschy (Taberna del Alabardero, Washington D.C.): Medium expressive nose displaying dense yellow fruit, lemon curd, cream brulee, candied ginger, a hint of oak, spicy spices and mineral. Excellent concentration, slightly coiled concentrated rich yellow fruit, rich, oily and powerful, medium acidity, strong mineral, and a long concentrated yellow fruit driven finish. This is a big scale wine that is drinking well.

Well, one thing is for certain, I opened this too young. 8 hours into the bottle and its still climbing, barely revealing itself for what it is.
Interestingly enough, a friend and I have a going debate about '09. Which is this -- that producers who picked early, as from what we can determine based on finished alcohol levels, made more successful, structural wines.
With this wine, labeled at 14%, I don't believe that is true. This is all structure and density, and needing time. My opinion still holds -- '09 is a rather intense vintage for the long haul. We shall see.

A wonderful captivating wine. Rich viscosity with endless fruit. Perfect matching acidity. Drinking beautifully now with no sign of any end coming.

Nose of brioche, lemon tart. Fat and buttery on the palate, possibly a bit too easy for a Bâtard.
