1982 Bordeaux (Jason's house): I've never thought much of this producer, but I must have never had this wine! Holy crap, this is Sauternes on steroids. It is sweet without even a touch of being heavy. Light as a feather with gobs of tropical fruit, spice and butterscotch. And they pulled this wine off with pinot gris? How is that possible? This was the perfect ending to a very fine tasting.
P: Refreshingly honeyed, white grapes with a very interesting spice. A really nice acidity that cuts through the thickness, not allowing the texture and flavors to ever feel or taste cloying.
First time with a Pinot Gris that has some substantial age and my goodness did it deliver. Completely took me by surprise. Such an awesome way to end the tasting. Didn't know Pinot Gris can get like this!

Guys Night - 1982 Bordeaux! (Jason's House): A great way to end a spectacular tasting of 1982 Bordeaux! I know ZH makes some excellent dessert wines, but who would have thought they could pull it off with Pinot Gris! I can say this is by far, and I mean BY FAR, the best Pinot Gris I ever tasted!
PNP from a half bottle. When Rocknroller suggested bring this instead of the 2001 Suduiraut I had planned, I thought this wine sounded more interesting, as I had never tasted one and had tasted the 2001 Suduiraut on a number of occasions (don't get me wrong, I love 2001 Suduiraut!). I must say, it is this kind of intermittent wisps of showing good judgement that gives me the false sense of feeling I actually have good judgement! This wine was stupendous! It showed all the elegance of a top notch Sauternes with a focus on honeyed stone fruits (apricots and Colorado peaches) with hints of pineapple and mango, coupled with honeycomb and orange peel, followed by liquid butterscotch. The wine was viscous, but also had enough acidity to balance out the wine and prevent it from being cloyingly sweet. Very elegant and an unforgettable experience if you have never had one! Thank you Kevin for sharing this! 97 points and probably only bested by Yquem in a great vintage!

Guy's Night: 1982 Bordeaux -- One for the Books (Jason P's, St. Paul, MN): Deep amber color. Drank a glass from 375ml over 30 minutes. My last bottle and simply stunning again. Creme brulee, spiced tangerine and spiced apricot, pineapple, with layers of tropical fruits, amazing wine, crisp and lively, yet so textured and honeyed, orange blossoms, ripe peach, very, very long and intense. 98+ to 99pts.

Wine weekend in the Twin Cities; 11/10/2022-11/12/2022 (Where the frosty air is refreshing.. kind of): N: Smells like a Sauternes but a touch lighter, a bit less concentrated and much more approachable (not as heavy on the nose). Smells like what rotting white grapes looks like (bruising/bruised white grapes), concentrated white grapes with a subtle honey note.
P: Refreshingly honeyed, white grapes with a very interesting spice. A really nice acidity that cuts through the thickness, not allowing the texture and flavors to ever feel or taste cloying.
