Without really resolving anything, I’ve been drinking less. (Not counting that right now I’m temporarily off the stuff entirely due to whatever this virus is).

I wouldn’t say that I was actually drinking so much in any case, but I would like to have two dry days per week in 2024, and where I wasn’t thinking twice about half a bottle, I would love to cut that back to a third of a bottle. Trying to cut calories….

I like to think in terms of "trajectory changes for the new year" versus resolutions. The one which comes to mind for me is: get back into a regular habit of writing tasting notes.

This one.
I need to get back to writing down impressions instead of intending to go online the next day and write it up. Then weeks later I end up just removing the bottle from the list.

I resolve to get back to the wines....last year it seemed we would take a nice wine or two to dinner with 2-6+ friends and it was always just a free for all talking with friends and nearly ignoring the nice wines. We might say, "Oh, that's real nice." but would not share more than that. We used to discuss wines in more detail and took notes and all...

This year, I would like to get a bit more geeky with it!

That's a good idea. I have a couple of nephews who are showing an interest in wine. Next time we have a wine dinner, I'll make more of an effort to ask them what flavors or aromas they are getting when they try the wine (with the understanding that there is no one correct answer).

What's your 2024 wine resolution?

I resolve to not ask Eric his opinion if I should click the Add to Cart/Place Bid button. I hope to change the trajectory of how often I click the Add to Cart/Place Bid button.

Curate mailing lists down to 8, buy more bubbles and sell at least 50 bottles of wine I don't love / plan on drinking anytime soon.

Not a resolution, really, but my wine goal for many years has been to end the year than a better cellar than I started. That has two components: time means that the better wines in my cellar are creeping towards maturity, and that I buy better wines than I drink.

I’ve generally been successful over the years. One way to quantify that (trigger warning: scores ahead!) is the average CT score for my cellar., which has been slowly rising.

With just about a third of the year behind us, I was checking in on my "trajectory changes" for 2024.

So far, so good. I've passed on several mailing list allocations (which I will probably never receive again), and also passed on adding a couple of new ones that I had been on the waitlist for quite some time. My overall spend is approximately 60% of what it was at this time last year. On the consumption side of the equation, I've actually seen a 68% increase over the same period last year. I've found myself opening wine more and drinking beer & cocktails less frequently.

This may sound heretical to this group but I am resolving to drink less wine this year. My rate of consumption is not healthy, and I really need to lose 20-25 pounds.

Great idea to revisit our resolutions!

Well, I have only slightly slowed my consumption - 86 bottles consumed so far this year vs 99 at this point last year. But my purchases are way down - 26 so far this year vs 67 to this point last year. And I have not lost any weight at all. In fact, I think I found a few pounds.

My resolution should have been to shrink my cellar instead of my waistline...

I am going to add a resolution a before the halfway point of the year. Mule more wine east and west across the country. Take the new stuff I have out west to the cellar in the east and come back with more things with age on them to the west. Major downside of being far from the main cellar, but close to where grapes I like grow.

Same here, made that resolution over 15 years ago and have kept it.

Nonethless, wife and I agreed whould be good idea to consume more Champagne in 2024, which we've started on with gusto.
