Friday, September 8, 2023 - Beringer 2021 PR Chard is an exceptional value at $37.50 (Total Wine). At least a 95-96 rated (assuming you do a proper decant). From the Gamble Ranch in Oakville, old Wente Clone. Reductive and flinty personality with sliced pears, apples, lemons, light cream., white flowers, chalky minerality, toasted hazelnuts. Full-bodied and very agile on the palate with good tension, staying calm until the end when it kicks in and runs long. 80% new oak, but the other 20% comes from larger barrels (puncheons) and is well balanced without overpowering oak. Great for aging, but who wants to wait?
