A very pretty nose and then flavors of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, cedar, licorice and then you are met with bitter tannins. I let this sit for 5 hours and tried again and while the bitterness resolved somewhat it was still to much to get over. I tried this again 24 hours later and still could not get over the bitter tannins. This made no sense to me as the wine is 9 years old and 2014's in general were not overly tannic and for my tastes were a bit soft. It really was a shame as without that I could tell the wine would have been quite good.
I know many CT'ers appreciate Lewis wines and especially for their QPR. I just haven't had much luck with this producer. The first couple of bottles I had were quite good but this is the 3rd bottle of Lewis that hasn't been right including a 2013 Lewis Reserve which was Wine Spectator wine of the year.
Big bold and delicious. Agree with recent notes plenty of fruit and body but nothing out of place. Decanted for an hour plus and it did open up a bit more although rich and expressive from the get go.

Oak barrel nose with black fruit, juniper, and rich loamy soil aromas. Chocolate, black cherry, and black fruits along with caramel and creme brulee form a rich and decadent palate, flashing the 15.5% alcohol. Fat, chewy tannins with cedar, espresso, dark plum and peppery earth, finishing long with vanilla and oak.

Another terrific Cab from Lewis. Big, dark, plum like fruit with blackberry notes, chocolate, cassis. This Cab is rich, full bodied with an amazing finish that goes on and on. This needs an hour decant to fully enjoy and it actually drinks better with a slight chill below room temperature.

Nice somewhat earthy nose. Muddled flavors in the middle. Not a bad thing, just nothing standing out. Finish is long and smooth. I'm going to wait a couple of years until I drink another of these. We had a '96 the other night that was spectacular. I hope I'm not being too harsh in my comparison.

Four hour decant. Deep dark ruby magenta color. Cherry, strawberry, vanilla, nutmeg and wild roses on the plush nose. Dry, supple palate, with a nice granularity to the acidity. Firm, full, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish. This is drinking very nicely, although it’s a touch primary, extracted and alcoholic.

Typical Lewis Cab. Bold, juicy, but so smooth too. Exaactly what one should expect from a Napa Cabernet. Very dark purple in color. Nose of flowers, tobacco, cigar box, plum and other black fruit. Chewy tannins. Benefited from a 2 hour introduction to air and got better as the night progressed.

This wine almost fits my personal preferences, it’s a tad too sweet and big, fruit fwd, without complexity to take the focus off the sweetness. It’s not in the league of higher priced big Brand Napa Cabs, not as sophisticated. Not sure it will improve in a few years, a pop/pour now. At the price I paid ($79) a good value if you are not expecting a refined wine

Two hour decant. Bright, nearly opaque magenta color. Ripe blackberry jam, anise, fig, açaí and carmelized sugar on the rich nose. Smooth, dusty, tongue drying palate with good acidity. Round tannins on the medium long finish.

Initial impression was enjoyable but the more I got into this the more I felt that overly extracted, manufactured taste. Reminding me more of Caymus than anything else, too much oak maybe but not as bad as some others. The cassis and fruit offering is somewhat masked by outside influences. I'm being particular here, its a good wine and relatively enjoyable, I would just prefer a Shafer 1.5 or merlot, or something that may come at a slightly lower price point.

PnP. Bursts of black fruits, clove, cinnamon on the nose. Hints of caramel. More prominent black fruits on the palate, subtle black liquorice, black pepper, baking spices. Robust but well-integrated tannins. Long finish. Needs a little time, or a steak to drink it now.

Dark purple. Fragrant nose throws off flowers, cinnamon, cigar box and purple fruit. Big wine. Black fruit. Texture is plush. Tannins a little chewy. Drinks nice right now, could certainly last awhile. Beautiful nose on this, near perfect score on that element for me. Complemented a boneless bottom round beef roast with gravy, very well. It got better into hour 1 and then 2, pouring right out of an open bottle. Will let others sit for as long as possible to see what else can happen with this.

Lewis is a nice and a very consistent brand. Their Cab's have always been a great value and the 2013 vintage is a tough act to follow. This vintage is not as good as 2013, but not much fall off either. In my opinion, the 2015 Cab may rival the 2013 vintage.

Last drank this 6 months ago and I was really trying to wait a year before drinking again, but I need to make room in my wine refrigerator for all the Realm, Carter, and Bevan wine I ordered so I thought why not.
This was purple in color with a big nose of blackberry, mocha, and some detectable heat. The 2 hour decant took care of the heat and this tasted of mostly black fruit with a touch of dark cherry. This wine has a huge mid palate with a long finish. This went incredibly well with the New York steak I had with it. As good as this was it will still be better in 6 to 12 months.

Full bodied, as expected. Lots of dark berries, vanilla, oak, chocolate and butter which is a bit fishy like any kind of dairy. If enjoyed now, I recommend an hour's bottle breathing a day before consumption. Rich and powerful Napa Cab, could be 94/100 but the buttery portion was a bit too much, so 93/100.

Night 1, a cacophony of fruitcake and oak. Huge, extracted, disharmonious, even after two hours slow ox. Night 2, much tamer after some of the heat blew off. Creamy, extracted, long spicy finish and plenty of fur. For the style, very good, but this was infanticide: this needs a few years to settle down and harmonize.

Sometimes I read Parker notes and I chuckle about where he comes up with some of his stuff. Christmas fruitcake was one such descriptor. When I opened this wine it smelled of licorice and Christmas fruitcake. It literally smelled like I stuffed my face in a creamy vanilla fruitcake. More of that flavor comes through in the creamy mouthfeel. More licorice and black cherry flavors coat the back end of this sizeable but well balanced beauty. I tend to forget about Lewis at times but this was eye opening. Great wine that will get better.
Was going to decant this for 2 hours but my computer got hacked and I forgot about the wine. Ended up decanting this 4 1/2 hours. I tried this at the 1 hour mark and it was drinking pretty darn good. It was big with a rich mid palate and a long finish. After 4 1/2 hours the fruit lost vibrancy and this was nowhere near as big. It did smooth out a bit but I preferred it at the hour mark. Maybe 2 hours would be a sweet spot. Probably 6 months in bottle would be even better. This was much better with a New York steak at dinner. Even better with a bit of chocolate. After getting my computer squared away a nice bottle of wine hit the spot!
day 2- Even better, back to rich and full with a hint of caramel on the finish. While this is good now this should really be hitting its stride in a year.

I like Lewis and I had some concern for the 2014 vintage at first, not only Lewis, but for the vintage overall. In my experience a number of the of 2014 Napa Cabs for that year seem to show a bit of a green edge in their youth, but that is no longer seems to be case. This 2014 is well on its way to becoming an excellent Cabernet. Wine Spectator has given this Cab a score of 94 points and I concur. Nice ripe dark berry fruit, good extraction, oak, anise, bitter sweet coco and sweet tobacco. This wine has a bright and future potential of +2 or 3 points with bottle age.

Same note as before with the heavy extraction and high alcohol. However the harsh edges really began to fade away after 5 hours decanting. Chocolate cherry, dusty blackberry, tobacco, cloves, sweet raspberry, and cassis liqueur. Needs several more years rest.

Purple fruit - blackberry, currants, and dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with nice depth. Fairly long finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over another three. Improved with time but at a nice drinking point after the decant. However, I believe this vintage could use another year or two for the fruit to soften and open-up a little more which is no surprise in light of its youth. I expect another point or two higher with some more time. Another great vintage from Lewis. According to WS, best from 2019 to 2030.
Great value if you can find at sub $60. Decanted 4 hours plus and the 15.5% alcohol plus high extraction never really mellowed. Chocolate cherry, dusty blackberry, tobacco, cloves, sweet raspberry syrup, and cassis liqueur. Still remains somewhat balanced and really enjoyable. Needs a few more years to mellow but can be popped and enjoyed no problem.
For whatever reason, have not purchased Lewis, but due to the Wine Spectator acknowledgement last year felt it was time.... well I have blown it all these years, should have been buying this amazing value by the case!

Better than the first bottle as the somewhat green edge is gone and the wine is progressing to a very nice place. As I said in my last note, dark purple red color, dark fruit and a great nose. On the palate, dark berries, cassis and flavors of mocha/ coffee and hints of bitter sweet chocolate, some oak and cedar notes, tobacco and plenty of youth. This is a signature Lewis Cab that is as usual, constantly approachable young, but the best days lie ahead in the future. I like it. 93.5 Points.

9.3+ This was the group's fav. Amazing balance from start to finish, we all bought bottles. I usually wait until I can get it at a discount from a local store but didn't want to risk it this time! Sometimes the oak can be overwhelming at an early stage but this is great with almost pnp. Fantastic showing!

P: MF body; Beautiful, almost swtish fruit on entry which is QUICKLY counterbalanced by acidity; Long, slightly spicy, almost swt finish. LOVELY, but a drink now rather than later style. 15.5% ABV [This vendor's $74.99 would appear to be a VERY competitive price.]

Brought this to a dinner and drank alongside a a friends bottle of 2014 Caymus. Everyone agreed the Lewis outshined the Caymus. The Lewis revealed ayers of Concentrated blackberry fruit, cassis, chocolate, vanilla, tobacco finish with a powerful finish.

It looks like another beauty from Lewis Cellars. Dark purple red color, dark fruit and a great nose. On the palate, dark berries, cassis and flavors of mocha/ coffee and hints of bitter sweet chocolate, some oak and cedar notes, tobacco and plenty of youth. This is a very good wine but it will be better with some age, but its really a nice wine right now.

This was the group's fav. Amazing balance from start to finish, we all bought bottles. I usually wait until I can get it at a discount from a local store but didn't want to risk it this time! Sometimes the oak can be overwhelming at an early stage but this is great with almost pnp. Fantastic showing!

It's been awaken. I wish Lewis never wine wine if the year. Most wine peeps knew the depth of their wines. Their napa cab is a true classic. This vintage is drinkable today but will be amazing a few years from now. Deep fruit from the beginning. ......

Big Gun Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Tasting [8 Napa, 1 Alex Valley] (San Diego Wine Co.): N: A tad muted? Cream init, then notes of blackberry/raspberry jam

This is a big one from Lewis. Far to young to be drinking now. Complex fruit, firm tannins. This needs a few years to come out.
