Wild cherry, pomegranate, shortbread, and baker’s chocolate fondant. One of the better Brunellos I’ve had in recent memory. This was a very pleasant surprise at Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in New Orleans. There might be a bit of potential built into my score. DQ and I agreed on most wines at this event, but this one was more polarizing.

WS Grand Tour (Walkaround Tasting) (New Orleans): This got a great score from WS but this was not a fave for me. I’ll refrain from scoring because clearly there is a style of BdM that is more subtle and elegant and I am just not versant in what that should look like. My notes say pale color, roses and cherries.

4/19/2024 - Red fruit and floral perfumed on the nose. Still young and structured considering the vintage with tannins on the finish. Elegant and layered with red fruit, leather and earthy notes. Eager to see evolution in a couple years

This has an incredibly pure core of sweet cherry fruit. There's some leather and earthy savoury nuance as well as highly-perfumed florals. It has a touch of spice and is both creamy and detailed. Great volume and energy and a length that drives on. Structural element are moderate and it drinks well young but will surly age effortlessly for a decade or two.

Elegant and finely balanced, the winemaker hasn’t tried to force a big wine out of a challenging vintage and it’s all the better for it. No riserva this year so the fruit quality is excellent in this normale- the house signature spherical, rich, slightly sweet but ever so classy flavour profile really sings. Medium bodied with bright acidity and fine, mouth coating tannins. Hints of violet, mint, exotic peppery spice. Just 12% of the wine was aged in tonneau, the rest in neutral slavonian botti grande.

Toasted earthy spices, fermented soya bean with ripe cherries and smoked fennel. Palate is rich and fresh with ripe tannins at the background. The clean acidity runs through its core from entry to a lingering finish with after notes of soya sauce and sour cherries. Drink this in 3 years’ time.

Deep garnet in color, elegant fusion of red fruit and spices with soft tannins and silky texture. Good structure but ready to drink.
