Dinner with Eric and Family (London): Light tawny brown with orange edges. The nose has a touch of oxidation (expected given the age) but soon blows off to reveal worn leather jacket, tar, Assam tea, charcuterie and some sour marinated fruit. The palate, however, has a noticeable increase in fruitiness with warmed strawberries glazed in a balsamic reduction, dried cranberry and some darker berried fruits like nastergaal (black nightshade) and a puff of smoke, all supported by firm acidity. The mid-palate has a soft texture as the powdery tannins melt away. Complex, this medium-bodied wine has tremendous depth and a prolonged finish. At its peak, so drink up. Dinner with Eric and Family (London): Tawny in colour, graduating to a wide orange rim. Classic aromas of dry leather, pressed flowers, and joss sticks, with subtle nuances of barbeque smoke, roasted stalked herbs and liquorice. The entry is soft, with liquorice stick and marinated cherry, and a chalky texture that gives the wine a linear line. Delicate tannins frame the wine beautifully, to which the sweeter fruit notes caress the palate without being overpowering. The lively acidity keeps this nicely layered wine narrow and focused. Long in length, the wine leaves with a lingering freshness. 94+

Dinner with Eric and Family (London): Mid yellow, the aromas are toasty and slightly flinty (Starter pistol/cordite), with a vibrant lemony to lemon curd. Surprisingly ripe for an English still Chardonnay! This continues onto a richer front palate, but the fruit is lifted and energetic. A lovely depth of flavour to which a strident acidity cuts through, giving balance and pushing through to a persistent finish that closes with a lingering taste of lemon curd spread on buttered toast. Bone dry. 93+ Aged on solids for 12 months.
