Eight years after tasting my first bottle. Not much has changed. No signs of tiredness, but at the same time there is nothing lush and generous about 96 Montrose. It is a bit stiff, with all the qualities of a bery good mature bordeaux. Like great lovemaking, but without the love.

Brought it to a daube de boeuf dinner with friends along with a CDP style country wine and a Haut-Médoc to see what fits. The d‘Anglès performed amazingly. This is a terribly underrated wine. Now that the tannins have resolves it‘s heavenly with the mourvèdre providing excellent character. A viscous mouthfeel, great length. Ripe but not overripe, an elegant and serious wine, but easy to access. Totally underrated by other tasters, I find.
Yes, the 12yo BDX had a lot of friends and the jammy CDP style bottle was charming (but a bit bland). But none of the others played with the flavours of the dish like d‘Anglès did.
