  • 2021 Tua Rita Rosso Dei Notri Toscana IGT

Great notes by Mr. Shoes below ↓

A really pleasurable drink now Tuscan blend with a few years prime drinking ahead.

It's kinda bold and brash like it has a chip on it's shoulder. This wine almost dares you to say something negative about it. For what this delivers, and at this price point, you can't.

A few hours after popping the cork, and a bit of swirling allowing more air, you'll get sweet dark black berries and cherries on the palate. A nice streak of acidity leads the way to a puckery finish that lingers on.

A great wine to pair on a cold winter night with a hearty dish like a Sheppard's pie or butternut squash ravioli in a brown butter and sage sauce. (why'd I just make myself hungry? sigh...)

A great wine to have at the ready while you keep your hands off your cellar gems waiting for their number to be called.

Great note by DrBad below. Almost identical experience here. Needed some air and time in the glass for sure. But I found this equally seductive and delicious. Given the solid structure of the wine I believe its best years are ahead for this Napa Bordeaux blend (right bank).

  • 2015 Tenuta le Potazzine Brunello di Montalcino

4+ hour decant and hours more time in the glass, this improved a bit but it's still somewhat closed and seems to not want to really express itself too much just yet. But it shows some of its charms, a glimpse, letting you know more patience will be required to experience more of what's hiding beneath.

The tannins are fine but grainy. More cellar time, 2-3 years and perhaps more air time out of the bottle would inch this closer to drinking it's potential and into it's early drinking window.

This has compact and concentrated red fruits, sweet wild berries, some spice, mineral, earth, and leather. The delivery is very focused. There is a cherry syrup/sappy-ness on the longish finish.

While very elegant, this possesses a focused harnessed power. In a few years, with more time in bottle, this Italian stallion, I'm sure, will run triumphantly through the fields and the forests.

The BdM made by these "chicks" is superb and one of my favorites.

7/14/2020 11:21:00 AM - Ahhh yes... Your TN from 10/14/19. Doh! How'd I miss that? (too much wine maybe ? Lol) Your notes were so spot on btw. I'm glad you tried it among some of the other Italianos. The Saffredi is awesome. Guado too. I can't wait to try '17 & '18. It's easy to go for the big names, with big price tags, and brag to your friends (or yourself ;-) But finding awesome wines at good to great prices is the grail & the sweet spot for me. And from what I can tell about the wines you get excited about, I'm guessing you might feel the same. Cheers!

7/14/2020 9:38:00 AM - Thanks for posting your suggestions on my message board. I've actually had the '16 Argiano Solegno and really loved it (TN posted on CT). It was spun-up pretty good in the beginning, but once it fanned-out over a few hours, it was compelling enough for me to buy more! I liked it a lot. I have the '17 Saffredi on pre-arrival, but have yet to try previous vintages. I'll be picking up some '15 and '16 for sure. The Grattamacco and Argentiera I have not had, so I will be adding them to my list of 'must get' based on your recommendation. I'm certainly newer to the Italian wine scene, so I very much appreciate your recommendations. I've been trying to focus on '10, '13, and especially '15 and '16 vintages and have had decent luck. I've been loving the Antinori Guado al Tasso in 2016! Thanks again. Cheers!
