  • 2015 Luce della Vite Lucente

The wine is a deep garnet, starting to brown at the rim. Definitely starting to "prune". My wife and I prefer older wines so this is still in our wheelhouse but some would say the primary fruit is past. If you have concerns drink up.

  • 2019 Clos de los Siete

After drinking the 2018 I went and bought a case. What a steal. I saw the 2019 and immediately purchased a bottle. I was really looking fwd to the experience. I PNP and tasted it. While certainly not bad it did not touch my recollection of its' older sibling. I went to the cellar and got the 2018 to do a comparison. My recollection proved correct. While the 2019 had some nice aspects it did not have the depth of flavour or the tannic structure of the '18. An excellent example of vintage variation. Glad I am a consumer and not a producer. I have the privilege of buying other wines. The unfortunate producers are stuck with what nature gave them that year. Humbles me. Thanks to all producers who give their all for my enjoyment.

  • 2012 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio

Yummm. Before composing this TN I read previous ones from other CT members and must concede I could do no better (and probably a lot worse) than Karl,1480. This is an elegant Chianti and was, IMHO, not suited to the spag and meatballs and a family dinner as we did. This is a wine that deserves some thought and consideration. Don't know how long this will last or improve, probably a decade or more, but you can't go wrong drinking it now. Expensive here in BC but I did not begrudge a penny I paid for it. A wonderful wine.

11/20/2021 3:29:00 PM - A - you should receive an email notification that i commented on your Hypothesis TN and my email is in that comment. I have since deleted the comment it on the platform. Send me an email.

11/20/2021 7:08:00 AM - A - that’s great news. Yes, my Managing Director had to green light the revised date as well. Hopefully the Malahat does revert back to its typical unreliability by then. I’ll get back to with details and I’ll send you a temporary comment on one of your TNs with my contact email and we can connect that way going forward.

11/18/2021 3:35:00 PM - Although I must discuss this with "she who must be obeyed", that is just a formality and you can count me in. Been looking forward to this since you first suggested it. Now the pressure of finding a bottle to 'stump the experts'. Hopefully the Malahat will be, at the very least, back to it's normal state of disrepair.

11/18/2021 2:21:00 PM - A - we never had the tasting in October but... we have settled on Sat Dec 11 3-6pm for a small tasting of 6 CTers. WOuld you be able to join us that day? Theme is still 2015 Meritage/Bordeaux reds

9/11/2021 7:49:00 AM - Hey Canoehead thanks for the heads up. As far as I am aware I am available, or will make it so, for both dates. Will check my schedule. Really looking forward to it. Did a side by side with the 2016 and 2017 Sunrock Red Meritage last night. 2016 was the obvious stand out, it was just so smooth and balanced start to finish. Delicious. I found the 17 just a tad astringent on the finish and the oak was not as well integrated. The 17 is on sale right now at save-on. Maybe give it a try to see if you agree. We can compare taste buds.

9/10/2021 8:14:00 AM - A - FYI: we are going to postpone the Sep18 wine tasting given where the province is trending right now and as much as I believe wine tastings are essential they're really not. Probably looking at Oct 23 or 30. Let me know if either of those Saturdays will work for you to come down to Victoria. Cheers.

8/10/2021 11:32:00 AM - A - no problem whatsoever, we'll get a weekend that works in the months ahead. We still have to make it up to the CR area anyway. If we head your way I'll give you a heads up. J

8/9/2021 7:57:00 PM - Hey Canoehead was so happy to receive your invite but also disappointed. Alas it one of very few weekends in any year that I have to work. The following weekend or almost any other weekend would work. I certainly fit the necessary two criteria but most importantly was looking fwd to meeting you in person and some other individuals that are drawn to Meritage/Boudreaux red blends. Thank you for thinking of me and if the date moves let me know and I will be there for sure

8/9/2021 12:04:00 PM - Addeatum, hope you're having a good summer. I wanted to let you know that our wine group is beginning to plan a tasting on the afternoon of Saturday September 18. The theme will be 2015 Meritage & Bordeaux red blends of high quality. There are two conditions of attendance, you must bring a wine that fits the theme category and you must be fully vaccinated. I will be hosting and there will be nibbles provided. Let me know if you're interested in attending. We're trying to keep this to a manageable group of 6-7. You'll need to ensure you drink responsibly and have arranged for safe transportation.

6/11/2021 10:36:00 AM - Hello! This just isn't working this time around. I'm locked up in meetings all afternoon. Next time you're coming to Victoria please give me a few more days notice and I'll try and make things work in the schedule. Would be good to meet, indeed. Have a safe and enjoyable trip. Let me know how you like Boom & Batten if you happen to go there. Cheers!

6/10/2021 12:33:00 PM - Addeatum, just opened my email now and saw you posted a message. I would be game for a glass of vino this Saturday but I'm already booked for my golf round (Cordova) that afternoon. Are you in town on Sunday as well? If not, we can continue to try and meet up sometime over the weeks ahead. If you're looking for a lovely place for a glass of wine right on the waterfront I do strongly recommend Boom & Batten. Nice wine list with Enomatic system and all kinds of nibbles at the bar. A few of us are trying to arrange a CT Island wine tasting here in Victoria sometime in September. Keep that in mind. Possibly a 2015 Meritage slugfest between Best of BC and Wash, Napa and Bordeaux. Stay tuned.

11/10/2020 12:18:00 PM - Hi Addeatum, CT is a bit clunky with these segregated message boards - they really should be linked for conversation purposes. Oh well, all good. I have not tried any 2016 Produttori wines yet. I'm not a Barbaresco fan in general. I had tried the '13 Pora when we were in Italy a couple of years back and then saw it on sale here so I snagged a few. But more for sentimental purposes. Let me know if you try any of the '16s and if they live up to the CT ratings.

  • Addeatum says:

11/9/2020 2:41:00 PM - Canoehead - wondering if you have tried the 2016 Produttori Del Barbaresco? Mostly high praise here on CT

  • Addeatum says:

10/26/2020 5:20:00 PM - Thanks for the invite I will take you up on it. usually get to Vic 3 or 4 times a year. Like to go to EW and Fort St. I really enjoyed your reviews of the Syrah/Shiraz earlier this year. Bought a few as a result. Our palates appear to be similar so I am always following your TNs. I should post more TNs. Been meaning to contact you. Thanks for reaching out. Stay healthy.

  • Canoehead says:

10/26/2020 12:15:00 PM - Addeatum, pleasure to reciprocate fan-wise. If you're ever in the Victoria area once this pandemic gets resolved please give me a heads up. We have a small group of wine enthusiasts that meet occasionally to pop a few bottles blind on a Sunday afternoon. Cheers!
