  • 2017 Brave Cellars Pinot Noir Less Traveled Momtazi Vineyard

Translucent red color, bouquet of fresh plums, strawberries, and fresh flowers. Quite pretty. Flavors were more subtle, but showed the same notes. Enjoyable and easy to sip, with no obvious flaws. Paired with a cheese and charcuterie board.

  • 2017 Schöne Tal Cellars Pinot Noir Meredith Mitchell Vineyard

I've returned to this Schone Tal a month later to test my notes and memory of this wine. The 2017 Meredith Mitchell Vineyard pinot noir has the red-brown color of nicely aged burgundy. There is a complex nose of plum, strawberry, and black cherry cola. I believe I also detect rose, dried tobacco leaf, and cloves. The oxidized quality is present in this bottle as well, in the best way. This is a wine to take your time with, swirling and enjoying the bouquet. The palate is more subtle, with the primary fruit flavors taking a back seat to the more developed secondary and tertiary flavors. Cherry cola, plum, dried tobacco leaf, cinnamon and cloves, and very slight dried herb. Can I really be getting all of this out of a glass of pinot noir? I still think my comparison to a 1998 Chateau Musar has merit. Although they are quite different, there is a quality there that is quite special and they share it.

  • 2022 Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Noir Willamette Valley

Translucent ruby red. Definitely give this a lot of time in a decanter to let the sulfur notes escape. Underneath the sulfur, there is a hint of red cherry and raspberry. In all, it took over 4 hours for the sulfur notes to blow off and really show anything underneath. It is MUCH better at the 4 our mark than at any point prior. Once proper tasting can be done, nice flavors of cherry, cherry cola and raspberry jam show up with just a tiny bit of raspberry tartness on the finish. I'm certain I opened this too soon. Likely needs two or three years in the cellar to settle down.
