Aerated for 1 1/2 hours, served in a Spiegelau Definition Burgundy Glass. Pale gold colour.
Nose: Tart red apple, pear and peaches at first. Notes of orange blossom, dried herbs, lemon grass and yeast arise. Crushed stones and wet stones come through as well, Lemon zest and lime juice on the way out.
Palate: Yellow apple, peach and hints of pear on the palate, notes of herbs soon after. Very fresh acidity, bright salinity and slight viscosity. Orange blossom, lemon zest, lime juice and wet stone on the finish.
Bought for 23€ at the winery, for that price this wine might be one of the best of the Südsteiermark. Great depth of flavour and structure, really goes to show what an underappreciated varietal like Welschriesling is capable of.

Aerated for 2 hours, served in a Spiegelau Definition Burgundy glass. Pale golden colour.
Nose: Ripe yellow apple, dried apple chips, passion fruit and hints of mango. Afterwards notes of savoury herbs, salted butter, bread rind, anise and crushed stones. On the finish, the wine shows aromas of smoke, oak spice and lemon peel.
Palate: Yellow apple, passion fruit and citrus zest on the palate, notes of herbs and oak spice soon after. Fresh acidity, noticeable creaminess and slight viscosity. Salted butter, dried apple chips, crushed stones and oak spice on the finish
Plays in the same league of oaked styrian Chardonnay as the Erwin Sabathi Pössnitzberg that I reviewed in April. Winemaker and terroir make the differences here, as this comes from volcanic soils in comparison to the chalcerous marl of the Pössnitzberg. Ried Buch is comprised comprised of basalt soil, from my observations this adds more ripeness to the fruit notes of Chardonnay.

Decanted for 2 hours, served in a Spiegelau Definition Burgundy Glass. Translucent ruby colour.
Nose: Pomegranate, strawberry and lingonberry at first, notes of rhubarb come through afterwards. Dried cranberry, roses, liquorice and wet stone come through as well. Towards the end, the wine shows forest floor, tar and herbs.
Palate: Tart cherry and strawberry at first, savoury herbs come through later. Very fresh acidity and grippy, structured tannins. Herbs, dried cherry and forest floor on the finish.
