Tasted blind after Burgundy evening. Savoury bouquet of earthy leather, red berries and cassis. Fully mature with some green tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon fruits and structure. Fairly light bodied and smooth. 1975/ 1964? St Estephe? (81/100)

One corked and one madeirized. The corked bottle lightly enough tainted that the underlying dark fruit, cedar, and smoke come through. Not quite up to the level of the La Mission (which is my favorite 64 Pessac) or the Haut Brion, but suggestive of good material underneath.

With Nelson family at Kendall's; Lively ruby-brick color; I went around the room and had everyone contribute to describing the wine: clean aromas, brown sugar, light sweet cherry, sous-bois, bark, wet leaves,"old & beautiful", wet hay, under growth, compost bin, wood chips black mushrooms, pot-pouri; light sweet impression of small forest berries in the mouth, no more tannins to speak of, smooth, balanced, tangy, good tart medium finish. This was quite awesome and in amzaingly good shape. fill level was low shoulder and cork was depressed. I thought it was going to be garbage, but was the opposite. Very happy with this magnum.
