This bottle shot the lights out. A board member declared this the best wine he's had in the last year. We consumed this after an Yquem Ygrec and Occidental Pinot, followed by exceptional Texas barbecue, and the Bevan stole the show. Truly exceptional complexity inclusive of tobacco, tar, chocolate. Dense and rich but not overly extracted or cloying. Bevan had everything right with this. Splitting hairs on a 98 rating or something higher, but definitely not lower. I'd call this a genuine value at $200, worth every penny and more.

I agree with RayT, the 2016 seems much bigger than prior EE vintages. We had it after a 2014 Tor BTK, and it was a little like going from Smokey Robinson to AC/DC. Both wines had a 60 minute decant. I’d try the 2016 EE again in a few years with a longer decant.

90-minute decant. Very deep dark ruby brick red magenta color. Black cherry compote, plum, blackberry, Nutella, bay leaf, molasses-infused pie crust, walnut, and subtle spiced orange rind. Dry, full bodied palate, with zest acidity. Full, velvety tannins on the long finish.
Big, voluptuous red blend. Classic Bevan style. Great complexity. Perhaps lacks some elegance. I was pleasantly surprised by the especially lengthy finish. Yes, this is totally my type of Napa.
Decanted this 90 min before drinking and I felt like it could have used a 3 hour decant. This had a beautiful nose of violets and spring flowers which the Cab Franc adds to the wine. Rich flavors of blueberry, dark cherry, and plum with secondary flavors of cigar box, and a hint of earth.
This wine was much bigger than any EE I have drunk before which is not surprising based on the vintage. Unfortunately, with that, it lost some of the signature Bevan plushness. This is where I believe a longer decant would have smoothed this wine out. 95+

Corked. So disappointing, was intended as the highlight of our dinner party.
