Wines with friends (Washington, DC): Creamy and waxy elements but a vibrant appeal, too. Lemons and green apple with sea salt and some floral perfume. Was hoping for a bit more, seemed hesitant at a time. Dropped off quite a bit on day two.

Aligoté at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): I didn't even know Chevillon made one. A slight bit of reduction on the nose here, but otherwise this is a fairly neutral and nondescript wine, with an odd fruit character and a super weird yogurt note. At the same time, there is a touch of sweetness as well.

In the world of aligoté, this is a superstar. Not content to simply be the base wine for a kir (and it does make a nice kir!), this can easily stand on its own. Nice floral aromatics, crisp yet nicely textured. More please.

Restrained and austere, as aligote usually is, but as it warms, lemon and lime sweet tart emerge, along with various mineral sensations. Nice, but definitely best when paired with appropriate food.
