  • One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Some sediment in the bottle and the screen. Tar and black cherry aromas during decant. Wine was clear; opaque purple from bowl to rim. After resting, tar subsided and bing cherries and raspberries became predominant, though the tar never left. Wine tasted young: besides the aforementioned flavors, there was anise, black pepper and a floral note. Truthfully, I drank this wine too young but it was purposeful. Wine was an accompaniment to smoky beef ribs served with a tabasco-infused molasses sauce. This wine was the perfect power wine to stand up to all that flavor. Long finish of dark cherries. This wine will last a long, long time and will be better for that time.
