Foolishly went into the cellar without my glasses and grabbed this 2013. Service and notes similar to my note of 11-27-2023. The wine improved over the 2 hours after decant, but I really think a few more years will improve the wine. It was quite good presently, however.

One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Lovely black fruit aromas came forth during decant. Wine was clear; garnet from bowl to rim with no bricking. After resting, nose of black fruit, cocoa and earth. In the mouth: deep fruit with tannins on the way out and a touch of bitterness on the medium-long finish. This wine seemed better than when I had it on 8-26-2020 hence the higher score. But for the bitterness in the finish, I would have rated it even higher.

8/28/2023 10:08:00 AM - Hi John, Thanks for your message on the public board. I don't have much particular insight into Sherry Lehman, but here is a link to read the best NY Times article. (No subscription required). https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/25/business/sherry-lehmann.html?unlocked_article_code=K9ZI2wxPyPkAta4B4YzDf9O_uIkDGnJvdqO3UooE-WEiGiK18_vOeX0Q1PSlYbin6vaoEaJJtS_oCZ152Ai-YoR85yncy_rTLAR9w57OX1iEC7Rh2PKUbHmDmrtR11K0zxAuXcAuqhVTb_zQBI9nrVy_GsWZZ7P-o01nBv6FMktbw5VINwwfPHQu9rz_p9lmRnvdKk_PF6l16AOd4zToD7odfplpDp8xbWe2aj41TkG4BcmPykgPe8luRGPqivcXx2xyBeun5-jd7CDRkcnSrZvFtmtj6r4Cew6HkxP9fTn6N56mPsZtK0NJO7lS8ZlbeCVfF1_qN7MO&smid=url-share
One of my friends ordered from Sherry Lehman. She got some wine -- although not what she ordered (Italian wines) -- but she got some champagne and White Burgundy wines, which appear to be of greater value than what she ordered. Sic. It is shocking to get the wrong wines delivered, as that would never happen in the past.
I used to buy from Sherry Lehman but not since I moved out of NYC in 2002 - which was still the old owners. I enjoyed their tastings, too.

PS. Cool cellar notes you have got. I am behind on mine (and my inventory updating), too!
11/9/2021 4:27:00 PM - I look for a writer who describes the wine and gives a guess as to the ageing potential. I try to figure out when to test bottles from my cellar. I understand that some people like their wines very young and fruit forward. I prefer mine in the middle of the drinking plateau or 2/3 of the way along the drinking plateau. I reevaluate drinking ranges every year based on new tasting notes. I still struggle going to release tastings and trying to figure out the path. I adjust my course regularly.

Similar service and profile as my note from 12-2-2022. Still delicious!
