Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 89.8 points

  • Gamay flavors dominate this blend. Not particularly elegant but tasty, bright, tart, crunchy fruit, some herbal and earthy character. Very nice.

  • A lot of acidity, but reserved on the fruit. Taste a look like some well grown Gamay had some pinot thrown in with it to class it up a bit - which makes sense as that's exactly what it is. There is some funk in there as well that almost leans a bit towards towards the raw meat spectrum.

  • Opened and paired with chicken and veggie leftovers. Did not decant but should have. Still very austere, hard, and grippy, so will be best 2025-2032. The nose is the best part of this wine currently. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

  • I didn't particularly enjoy this bottle from Chevillon. While it wasnt offensive by any means, it lacked structure, tasted a bit too acidic for passetoutgrains and didn't offer either the simple fruity pleasure of gamay or any hint of pinot noir from one of my favorite producers.

Hubert Lignier continues to be my benchmark for this style of wine but considering 2018's hot profile, I expected a nice weekday bottle and this was a bit of a letdown. At least the price was good. 2018 continues to be a very tricky year for me as a burgundy consumer with more misses than hits so far.

  • Dark, stoney blend of 1/3 Pinot and 2/3 Gamay. Shows as much as it's less finesse, more structure and grippy - at the intersection of mineral rich earth and fresh red berry. Notes of black pepper, graphite and cedar. Dark chocolate covered cherries and fruit leather strips. Quite a bit of tannin and earth finding it's way through too and right into flavors of fresh raspberries, bright cherries.
