  • Two hour decant. Deep dark magenta color. Black cherry, plum, honey cookie, pen ink, and coffee lozenge. Smooth, dry palate. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish.

    This was good but not great on this evening. It’s not totally put together, like many ‘19s right now. It’s also a bit medicinal. I’ll wait a while before I have another bottle.

  • PNP. Very deep dark purple magenta color. Blueberry, blackberry, and dark chocolate. Smooth, dry palate, with nice tongue coating acidity. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

    Fruit is from Oakville Station (formerly part of To Kalon). This is very fruit forward. Small production by Mark Davis (engineer turned winemaker), who sells through The Wine Thief in Napa.

  • From the famed To-Kalon Vineyard, this is UC Davis' piece of the To-Kalon pie, called, "Old Federal Vineyard." Smack in the middle of Beckstoffer's and MacDonald's vineyards, Cobden Wini (what a name!)'s Old Federal Vineyard is another piece of this rich history. Cobden Wini is it's own animal and builds its wine in its unique and promising manner.

    Decanted for 3+ hours and it got better during a long dinner. Primarily purple with a little black in the glass, nice smells, beautiful balance and energy! Mostly translucent, integrated tannins, and full-bodied. Fruits were dark cherry, black and blueberry. Lead pencil shavings. Mineral notes throughout, lots of spice and a very nice and long finish.
