Presented by Sandy Leckie

  • 2008 Chateau Musar Musar Jeune Rosé - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Pleasant red fruit aromas, a serious nose.
Ripe fruit , with a dry and bitter mid palate, a longish spicy finish, a wine that will go well with food. (86 pts.)
  • 2008 Chateau Musar Musar Jeune Red - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
A fruity, youthful but rather one-dimensional nose.
Fresh, warm, fruity, tannins not too obvious, spicy finish. (79 pts.)
  • 2002 Chateau Musar - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Juicy, redcurrants and rosehips, sweet attack, well balanced, liquorice and spice in teh mid palate, very complex, very long dry finish. Just about ready now but will reward keeping. (90 pts.)
  • 2001 Chateau Musar - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
An intreesting and complex nose. It starts with animal, tobacco and spice (cinnamon) notes and then becomes quite fruity.
The taste is very fruity and youthful, much sweeter that the 2002, fairly obvious tannins, excellent balance, needs a few more years but it's drinking well now. (91 pts.)
  • 2000 Chateau Musar - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Leathery fruity, quite sweet aromas, a bit gamey.
Sweet and spicy, tobacco, softish tannins, good balance, dry finish. (90 pts.)
  • 1999 Chateau Musar - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
A strange nose, starting out like vanilla custard, but patience revealed its complexity with fruit and game aromas.
Sweet and spicy, quite luscious and drinking well but try this again in about five years. (86 pts.)
  • 1995 Chateau Musar - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Nice aromas, animal and fruit - baked dates, figs amd prunes.
Fruity with a hint of oak, spicy, a sweet attack, dry mid palate, drinking beautifully. (88 pts.)
  • 1989 Chateau Musar - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
Initially this was musty, you'd think it was flawed, but five minutes in the glass was rewarded by a gradual replacement of the mustiness by fruitiness growing to an abundance of dried fruits.
In the taste the sweet fruit attack gives way to a very dry mid palate. Initially the mustiness is there in the taste, then it disappears and allows you to really enjoy this wonderful wine. (91 pts.)
  • 2003 Chateau Musar Blanc - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
This has a fascinating nose, very sweet like golden syrup or honey, a bit oxidised like sherry.
This was so difficult in the mouth. At first I hated the taste, though recognising the honey and nutty marzipan complexities. It seemed spoiled by nasty tastes of oxidisation but Musar demands patience and after a good ten minutes the taste had transformed; there was fruitiness and sweetness; it had become approachable. (87 pts.)
  • 2001 Chateau Musar Blanc - Lebanon, Bekaa Valley
The aroma of honeyed sherry seemed to lack depth, complexity.
A very drinkable wine but somehow unexpectedly simple, honeyed but drying out. Maybe it needed patience to develop in the glass. (84 pts.)
