Love this! it needed the 2-3 hour decanting and actually was best 9 hours later (a glassfull was left in the decanter and i am driniking it as i type)
this is real pfalz - tropical overlay, nose that makes your mouth water. pineapples and peaches and apricot?the midpalatte is rich - almoust like a spat, still bit too sweet in the middle but the finish is perfect, long and full of minerality... YUMMY! (90 pts.)
Salad of mixed freens, pears and blue cheese i must say - this match worked like a charm! - 2005 Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Spätlese trocken - Germany, Nahe
oh my - this is my fav trocken EVER ... seriously... ripe riesling nose, dry rich midpallate, a looong finish with a touch of RS(10grams)... nothing out of balace, nothing sticks out... amazing concentration and minerality...YUMMY!!! (92 pts.)

a totally different vintage - and the wine shows it. even though this is halbtrocken it tastes drier than the '05, more vicious and stronger on acidity, the minerality becomes the focus rather than the background... very precise wine... (92 pts.)

this is the driest '05 spatlese i've tried, amazing fruit cocktail on the nose, long long wine, amazing concentration... with time (5-7 years?) it should be stunning. (93 pts.)

this is a donnhoff...notes? its elegant, perfect, sleek and ..... this is Natasha Rostova... (damn it Jay, my head is working on novels rather than wine) these wines are so amazing that they seem to make the world around look simple. 94 now but ++++ potential (94 pts.)

Lyle - i checked - 1000 cases made of this.... which is a HUGE production for 1 wine in Germany - especially on this level... isnt it?
The '02 are officially closed... but this still had enough to show whats hiding under there. Masculine..Lyle said chiseled. the best part here is the structure, strong mineral core, chalky midpallate, stones and red fruit on the finish... i liked this the best of the young wines. (95 pts.)

this is a good wine, but rather outmatched tonight. there is ton of good fruit, a good finish but the wine feels a bit disjointed at this stage. its more like a fatter spatlese than a real auslese in complexity. good but qpr factor suffers deeply (91 pts.)

the group was divided on this - some felt that the '83s were dying. others felt they were great. i LOVED this wine... its green apples, minty finish, forest y and smoky on the nose, touch of caramel in the middle. perfect food wine...not a wine that blows you away but one that makes the perfect day a touch better... maybe its just me but this is what i want from a spatlese (95 pts.)

alcohol 7.8%..just thought i'd mention it :)
this was simmilar to the prum. tasty, appley golden wine. a bit thicker that the prum but a bit less fresh. some RS left in the finish. long midpallate, nice finish but shorter than prum. again - i am squarely in the "i love this stuff" camp... :) (92 pts.)

this was on its last breath, but it was still alive, although i might have been the only one to think so. still sweet - the RS must have been amazing, acidity sticks out but the wine has its charm. again - i am alone on this wine ..oh well
Peach and apricot crumble - 2003 Von Hövel Oberemmeler Hütte Riesling Eiswein - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
this is like a GK auslese with a dash more acidity. still - IMO a great qpr, refreshing light desseet wine that stood up well to the crumble. red berries and ripe apples, YUMMY rather than complex (91 pts.)
