Few 2005 Bordeaux before my Bordeaux tasting on Sunday | (317 page views) | | - 2005 Clarendelle Bordeaux - France, Bordeaux (9/14/2013)
Another half bottle after 2 years, this time not decanted but drink slowly over the next 3 hours. A blend of predominantly Merlot - 82%, then 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. Dark garnet, showing aromas of dark fruits, dark cherry, tobacco, roast herbs & spice. Medium bodied with tart acidity, blackcurrant, cherry, forest floor and spice on palate. Finishes fresh and nice with chewy tannins. Now I find it a bit simple but a good everyday drinnking Bordeaux red (88 pts.)
- 2005 Château Lamothe Bergeron - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc (9/17/2013)
A blend of 55% Merlot and 45 % Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark garnet, showing aromas of dark cherry, rose petal, mineral and forest floor. Rather lean on the palate, blackcurrant, cherry and mineral. Tart acidity with soft medium length. This bottle is disappointing compared to my last tasting 2-3 years back and did not live up to the reputation of a combination of the Crus Bourgeois estate and great vintage. But at this price point it does not have much to lose. (87 pts.)
- 2005 Château Puy Guilhem Fronsac - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac (9/20/2013)
Dark garnet with slight brick red edge, restrain nose, meaty and savory with tart cherry and licorice. Smooth and earth entry, showing blackcurrant, cherry and subtle earthiness. It has good intensity on palate with balance acidity. Fine tannins with nice long finish exceed my expectation. Pretty simple on flavour profile but it has good mid-palate and solid finish. A nice wine from AOC of Fonsac, very good QPR. (89 pts.)
