10/1/2014 (The Traklin - new location)

7 Bordeaux lovers gathered to enjoy great 2000 (mainly) Bordeaux bottles: Hanan, Doron, Benny, AviS, Hillel, Yoram & myself

  • 2013 Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio Alto Adige - Südtirol - Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol
    blind tasting
classic Alsatian Pinot Grigio characteristics guessed
my first tasting of Alto Adige PG and I was impressed.
very enjoyable, good quality, lovely wine for food at very good value for money. (88 pts.)
  • 2000 Vieux Château Certan - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
double decanted 90 min prior to enjoying
    transparent dark ruby colour
delicate feminine aroma of fine ripe blackberries, graphite, coffee/chocolate and some stony hints
med-full bodied, well balanced, excellent harmony, dark red cherry & blackberries with chocolate, tobacco and cedar notes, smooth, silky, with medium+ length aftertaste.
    classic VCC. (93 pts.)
  • 2000 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
double decanted 2 hours prior to enjoying
    dark red-black
quality elegant intense left-bank aroma, with notes of blackberry, earth, spice, truffle, cassis, smoke, blueberry and tobacco
full bodied, firm solid integrated tannins, excellent acidity level, wonderful harmony, great complexity, waves of pure, sweet, ripe, black cherry and spicy cassis with long, generous finish.

it was a great relief for me, as the other bottle I shared with my wine-buddies few months ago was flawed... (94 pts.)
  • 2000 Château Montrose - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
uncorked 2 hours prior to enjoying
    dark purple.
quality black fruits, dusty/earthy/leathery aromas with notes of blackcurrant and raspberry and cedar hint.
rich delicate palate of CS fruit with intense blackcurrant & red fruits flavours, light spice, earthy & licorice tones. full bodied, surprisingly already-integrated tannins, still young but already in its best period. Well balanced.
    medium+ finish. (94 pts.)
  • 2001 Château Cos d'Estournel - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
uncorked 2 hours prior to enjoying
    dark red-purple-black colour
rich dark fruity aroma of black cherry & blackberry, with notes of graphite and pencil lead.
full bodied, good acidity level, grip tannins i.e. not yet reached the optimal drinking window.
excellent structure, great harmony, with medium+ finish.
should be further aged for 2-3 more years to reach its optimal drinking period, then it'll merit higher score. (92 pts.)

all wines were great.
the 2001 Cos is still too young.
