  • 1999 Lark Hill Methode Champenoise Pinot Noir Chardonnay - Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Earth, ginger, ash, some floral notes and also a vegetal undertone. Palate is rounded with a caramel note but it has retained nice acidity. Has some interesting character to it. (88 pts.)
  • 2004 Lark Hill Riesling - Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Canberra District
Floral, musk, some kero, spice and earth. Medium length. Nicely balanced with a touch of sweetness about it. Drinking nicely now. (90 pts.)
  • 2012 Mac Forbes Riesling EB04 Tradition - Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Orange peel, herbs and a soapy floral lift. Good body and really nice texture to it. Wasn't surprised when this was revealed as I had tried it a year ago and it was consistent with that taste. (90 pts.)
  • 1996 Rockford Riesling Hand Picked Eden Valley - Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley
Toast and wooden with some light floral notes in behind. Fading on the palate, with the fruit falling away. Still drinkable but this bottle not providing a huge amount of pleasure. (86 pts.)
  • 2000 Petaluma Chardonnay - Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Piccadilly Valley
Talc, spice, honey, pineapple and a light oak note. Great acidity, really nicely balanced. Had this a few months ago and it is maybe even a touch better than the last great bottle. Superb. (92 pts.)
  • 2007 By Farr Chardonnay - Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
Smoky oak, bacon and pine aromas. Fairly rounded on the palate, with the oak providing good structure, but not quite having settled just yet. Currently at an in-between stage. (90 pts.)
  • 1998 Brokenwood Chardonnay Graveyard - Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Mint, florals and a bit of a freezer burnt character that detracts. Palate is nicely honeyed, with medium length and a kick of acid through the middle. Nearing the end of its life but holding up okay. (87 pts.)
  • 2000 Bannockburn Chardonnay S.R.H. - Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Geelong
Soy and caramel with a bitter edge. I think good bottles of this might be few and far between at this stage. (FLAWED)
  • 2011 Chrismont Petit Manseng - Australia, Victoria, North East, King Valley
Pithy lemon, tropical fruit, some musky florals. Provides both sweetness and decent minerality on the palate. Carries nicely. Not complex but has some appeal. (88 pts.)
  • 2004 Tahbilk Viognier - Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Nagambie Lakes
Floral, spice, lemon and honey. Good fresh mouthfeel, nice medium length and still has some fruit weight behind it without feeling dense. No real overt Viognier character to it but holding up really nicely. (89 pts.)
  • 1999 Tyrrell's Sémillon Futures - Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Grapefruit, vanilla and honey. Just holding up on the palate, doesn't seem faulty, just seems old without having developed significant character. (85 pts.)
  • 1999 Mount Pleasant Wines Sémillon Single Vineyard Lovedale - Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Oxidized. Has elements of goodness but not good. (FLAWED)
  • 2004 Keith Tulloch Shiraz Kester - Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Charcoal, graphite, meaty, cherry and a little bit of VA - plenty going on. Has an interesting savoury character on the palate, the tannins do stand out a bit even with some quite intense fruit. Palate isn't as interesting as the nose but it had certainly developed since I tried it in its youth. (88 pts.)
  • 2005 Setanta Shiraz Cuchulain - Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Herbal, earth, mint and licorice. Nice medium weight profile but started to fade a bit in the glass which is a concern for its future prospects. Medium length and well balanced for now. (88 pts.)
  • 2005 Te Mata Estate Syrah Bullnose - New Zealand, North Island, Hawke's Bay
White pepper, sawdust and oak, floral and chocolate. Lean on the palate, and it doesn't carry the oak treatment. Okay but Oaky. (86 pts.)
  • 2008 Sutton Grange Syrah HOG Block Estate - Australia, Victoria, Central Victoria, Bendigo
Rosemary, redcurrant, spice and herbs. Nice pure fruit on the palate, with a mineral core and good length. Strongest wine of this Shiraz flight. (89 pts.)
  • 1991 Tyrrell's Shiraz Cabernet Show Reserve - Australia
Hunter/Coonawarra blend. Raspberry, redcurrant, earth and charred meats. Very good flavour intensity that really needs food to show its best. A little more complexity and this would be amazing but it is just excellent as it is. (90 pts.)
  • 2012 William Downie Pinot Noir Yarra Valley - Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Floral, raspberry and stems with an additional herbal note to it. Not all about the fruit but it does stand out as Australian anyway. Nicely restrained on the palate, with good acidity. This is very young but I like it and would happily look at it again with some additional age. (90 pts.)
  • 1990 Lindeman's Cabernet Sauvignon St. George - Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Redcurrant, leather and mint. Medium bodied, good tannin resolution with some sweet red fruits still present. Very good! (90 pts.)
  • 2003 Seppelt Cabernet Sauvignon Moyston - Australia, Victoria
Chocolate, licorice and vanilla - nose is a little muted throughout. Medium bodied, nicely balanced. Good but not really pushing to be great. (88 pts.)
  • 2006 Lake's Folly Cabernets - Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Chocolate, spice, raspberry and graphite. Good fruit intensity with plenty of tannins to back it up. Still very young and really needs more time. (90 pts.)
  • 2012 Cirami Estate Lagrein - Australia, South Australia, Lower Murray, Riverland
Cloudy colour. Citrus and herbal nose, certainly different. Very light body, with some of the herbal element pushing through. Not to my taste. (85 pts.)
  • 2013 Unico Zelo Nebbiolo Lunga Kersbrook - Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Adelaide Hills
Kirsch, smoke, chocolate and tobacco. A little plush on the palate, it doesn't seem to have a huge amount of Nebbiolo character but it is a nice younger drinking style. (88 pts.)
  • 2013 Joadja Vineyards Malbec Reserve - Australia, New South Wales, South Coast, Southern Highlands
Ginger bread, bubblegum, pine and herbs. The palate isn't as interesting, it wants some more tannin and acid for structure and lift. Overall good, but I'm okay to have only tried it once. (85 pts.)
  • 1994 Mount Pleasant Wines Shiraz Philip - Australia, New South Wales, Hunter Valley
Band aids and spice - fruit is masked. Palate has the same brett taking over. Not a positive bottle to me. (85 pts.)
  • 2009 The Colonial Estate Shiraz Mungo Park - Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Blackcurrant and oak with some kirsch and pencil shavings. Palate has good richness from the fruit, with medium structure keeping it moving. Nice but a little bit boring. (87 pts.)
