 4/9/2015 (Volnay)

A brief run through of part of the 2013 Cote de Beaune range. If these wines are representative, it seems as the though the wood treatment has been scaled back compared to the wines of the early 2000s in the period shortly after Patrick Landanger took the reins. With the exception of handling all of the wine gently via gravity filtration, this is very high technology winemaking reflective of the owner's engineering background. It would have been nice to taste the Bousse d'Or and at least a few of the newer Cote de Nuits holdings, but the quantities are very small (2 barrels in the case of the Bonnes Mares, we were told), and I guess we didn't look like wealthy Russian oligarchs.

  • 2013 La Pousse d'Or Santenay 1er Cru Clos Tavannes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru
Dark red. Brambly ripe cherry fruit. Medium weight. Tart, earthy finish. Substantial but may be overbalanced to acidity.
  • 2013 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos d'Audignac - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Lighter color than the Santenay. Floral aromas. More texture although still light bodied. Dark fruit, cranberry acidity, little oak. Elegant Volnay.
  • 2013 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos des 60 Ouvrées - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Light red, more menthol here. Lighter weight than the Audignac. Black fruit and anise. Very lively but not as frankly tart as that wine.
  • 2013 La Pousse d'Or Corton-Clos du Roi - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Medium ruby. Serious, smoky nose. Medium weight, very soil driven, backward. Sneaky texture, rising tannins. Penetrating acids, good length. Will need a long time, but the best of the 4 wines we tasted and excellent potential.
