Quick tasting at Zachys, taking only cursory notes. The standout for me was Pavie Macquin '05-- luxurious fruit was simply superb.

  • 2005 Château Pavie Macquin - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Fleshy and succulent ripe fruit -- plums, ripe dark cherries, blueberries. More luxurious and lush, this merlot based wine simply stood apart from the rest of the lineup. Vibrant and enjoyable. Excellent.
  • 2000 Château Pontet-Canet - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Mature but excellent fruit, vibrant and layered, showing red fruits, currants. Long finish. A grand dame.
  • 2005 Château Sociando-Mallet - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Dark cherry aromatics, hints of cola, plums, wood. Drinking well now, though still somewhat tannic. Good.
  • 2005 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Bright red fruits, cherry, with a hint of vanilla aromatics. Good persistence. Very enjoyable now, should continue to improve.
  • 2010 Château Giscours - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
Comes of somewhat tight now, though the fruit is still primary. Dark plum, violets, oak. Structured, needs time to settle. 79%/21% cab/merlot split.
  • 2006 Château du Tertre (Fronsac) - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac
The fruit is a bit sour and not very enticing. Missing fragrant aromatics. Structured but, not alluring.
  • 2006 Lynsolence - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Energetic and tight, showing bright red fruit, someone one-dimensional and a little lean. Tannins are dominant in the finish, almost astringent now. Needs lots of time; not sure if the fruit is ripe enough to go the distance.
