 7/2/2015 (Beaune)

  • 2008 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
    Moderately oxidized. (FLAWED)
  • 2012 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Lots of ripe apple with baking spice hints and some lemon peel notes. Massive overall on palate with impressive density. Minerality and acidity that together make this slightly teeth chattering, but this is a great 1er Cru now with exciting upside. (94 pts.)
  • 2011 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Poruzots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Apple, pear with background spice and peach hints. Started lush and fleshy, then transformed into something more elegant and finessed after 30-45 minutes in glass. Power from start-to-finish. (92 pts.)
  • 2007 Hubert Lignier Charmes-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Black and red cherry with meaty character. Great fruit, moderate density. Entering its peak drinking window around now with moderate structure that will keep it fun for a decade plus (2014-2027?). I liked it slightly more tonight at Caveau des Arches vs when last tasted, which was exactly two years ago at Caveau des Arches. (92 pts.)
  • 2011 La Pousse d'Or Clos de la Roche - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
This will need some cellar time, far more than most 2011s at its level. Red and black cherry aromas with good intensity. Similar flavors profile that starts with good spice, but today is followed by a slightly hollow/ shut middle that I hope will expand with time. Slightly bitter finish that I also hope dissipates. Perhaps just 88 points based solely on pleasure provided tonight, but I certainly see upside potential, so judgment deferred. I wouldn't revisit to 2020 or later.
