 3/8/2019 (Le Bernardin Privé)

  • 2008 Domaine Ramonet Chevalier-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Mature and likely too advanced for its age. But this still has some mature goodness with dense aged orchard fruits. 91-92 points but should be better.
  • 2011 Coche-Dury Meursault 1er Cru Caillerets - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Fruit is rich and silky, but missing the acidic lift and energy to make for a complete wine. Off bottle?
  • 2002 Domaine de la Vougeraie Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru
Served blind. Lots of black cherry and Vosne-like spice. Round and velvety with GC concentration. Guessing Vosne grand cru. A delicious and well-made wine, but shows more producer than place. (92 pts.)
  • 1993 Domaine Robert Arnoux / Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Wow. Full, lifted nose has mature red fruits layered with a huge dose of Vosne spice and earth tones. Palate is just so damn good. Once again a huge amount of intense spice with mature, but rich black cherry fruit. A memorable wine. (97 pts.)
  • 1996 Domaine Anne Gros Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Showing quite mature. Flat and compact.
  • 2002 Domaine A.-F. Gros Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Good depth of flavor. Persistent with spice throughout. Approachable and drinking well now, if a little young. (93 pts.)
  • 1966 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon - France, Champagne
I'm no fan of old Champagne, but this was damn impressive. A full, boastful now of mature orchard fruit and brioche. Mature fruit that is reminiscent of aged white burgundy. Layered and even rich. Still fresh with good length. Wow. (96 pts.)
  • 1993 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Second bottle in 12 hours - that's Paulee, I guess. Similar to the bottle from last night but I like this a touch better. Amazing nose full of stemmy spice. Red fruited palate is loaded with spice and stem, into a long finish. (94 pts.)
  • 2000 Emmanuel Rouget Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
A wow nose with amazing richness and depth. The palate is dense and so complete. Loads of spice, saddle leather and earth add interest. Big finish. Complex and pleasingly delicious. (95 pts.)
  • 1985 Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
85 MM GE/CV side-by-side. Big nose of classic mature Burg loaded with Vosne spice and mature earthy red fruits. Silky and full on the palate. Mature red fruit is laced with earth and spice. Tough to chose a favorite between the GE and CV. (95 pts.)
  • 1985 Mongeard-Mugneret Clos Vougeot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
85 MM GE/CV side-by-side. A wow nose with so much depth and perhaps a touch more intensity than the GE. The fruit is a little more fresh here in the CV. Great spice, earth and mineral notes. Drinks consistently well over an hour. (95 pts.)
  • 2012 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Bâtard-Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
A terrific young Batard. Has that fatty richness and density that is met with tension and freshness. Flavors are ripe, but in control. Long powerful finish. (95 pts.)
  • 2009 David Duband Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Surprisingly approachable for a young Chambertin. Lots of ripe and rich fruit that envelopes the structure. Fun to drink but a little simple. I suppose this has upside to gain depth and complexity. (92 pts.)
  • 2009 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Drinking pretty well right now. Very rich, deep and approachable. Youthful but with many dimensions.
  • 1996 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Magnum. Mature with fruit that is showing just a hint of caramel. Good depth and spice. Right on the edge of life. (90 pts.)
  • 1996 Domaine Leroy Latricières-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Intense and full nose with insane amounts of exotic spice and ripe black cherry. The palate is a marvel with amazing amounts of depth and richness, yet so silky and lithe. Intense and generous spice throughout. (97 pts.)
  • 2007 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut - France, Champagne
Classic CdC toast and rich orchard fruit in a more fleshy and loose knit vintage. One to drink on the younger side, I think. (92 pts.)
