From time to time our friend Loek want to taste some very authentic wines.

  • 1998 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut - France, Champagne
Lovely mousse, perfect citrus, first impression, a bit shy, showing a certain age, but with aeration the wine becomes more powerful and very lively. Almonds and cocoa in the bouquet and the cocoa continues in the taste; a firm taste, classic in style with a whiff of yeast and a superb balance in the aftertaste. (96 pts.)
  • 2006 E. Guigal Ermitage Blanc Ex-Voto - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
A deep golden, but lively, colour with also a 'deep' taste, lovely nutty, mokka, cocoa, blossomed with aeration showing bitters and a compensating ripeness/sweetness and a very tasty finish; so powerful that the wine could not be very subtle, but I did not care. (95 pts.)
  • 2009 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs - Germany, Rheinhessen
A lovely light to medium yellow , ripe with sweetness and underneath a good acidity in the bouquet, quite difficult to describe, followed by a very voluptuous taste, that pushes everything else away, but ending, just in time, in a friendly dry finish. The acidity becomes more prominent with the aeration and the aftertaste is extremely long. I suggest that this wine is still too young to show all its qualities. (96 pts.)
  • 2014 Tissot (Bénédicte et Stéphane / André et Mireille) Arbois Clos de la Tour de Curon - France, Jura, Arbois
A difficult to determine bouquet, a bit closed, a bit spicy, a juicy taste with a nutty impression, a hint of toffee combined with the bitters in the aftertaste. (93 pts.)
  • 1953 Château La Fleur St. Émilion Grand Cru - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Unbelievable, fantastic colour (I suggested a '98), still very deep red, a lively bouquet with red fruit, overall very lively with a concentrated and smooth midtaste.
This energetic wine showed no signs of decay; 100% Saint-Emilion with perfect bitters and tannins in the finish; 95 points and 1 for being so extremely vivid at the age of 67+. (96 pts.)
  • 2012 L'if - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion
Young, noticeable new wood, combines power with lots of fruit, showing even some sweet puppy fat, at the moment positively chunky; although missing some subtlety at the moment its future is bright. (94 pts.)
  • 1997 Château Sigalas Rabaud - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
I suggested a 2005 Sauternes, yellow to golden colour, a bit restrained bouquet, ripe and lively taste, balanced but not very complex. (90 pts.)
  • 1952 Kopke Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto
Bottled 1985; a nearly hefty bouquet with lots of almonds and other nuts, starting a a bit sharp, but broadens with aeration. The hallmark of Kopke: not the power, but the persistence combined with a medium sweetness; finishing dry and nutty and with a superb aftertaste. (95 pts.)

Terrific stuff
