A little Coravin tasting of some Burgundies (and a random Beaujolais)

White

Yum yum here - lovely to see these evolving over time

  • 2017 Domaine Louis Michel Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent - France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
From Coravin. Aromas of a little butter, green apple, lemon, steely minerality, smidge of sulphur. on the palate there is medium plus intensity acidity, a little texture to the mid palate lends apple skin bitterness to the finish, otherwise similar flavours to the nose but slightly greener. Hmm.
  • 2009 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
From Coravin. Stone fruit with a citrus underpin, a little butter, honey, sweet spice; nutmeg especially. medium plus intensity acidity, the honey is more evident on the palate, fresh stone fruit, long, buttery on the finish. the gift that keeps giving. glorious
  • 2001 Rapet Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
From Coravin. All butter and honey on the nose initially backed by a little sweet spice that gets dustier with time in the glass. Juicy, fleshy, buttery, honey, a little mushroom/umami note is not off-putting but adds depth, long balanced, pretty much all tertiary now but not dead by any stretch of the imagination.

Red

Interesting bracket of reds...

  • 2015 Dominique Piron Morgon Côte du Py - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
From Coravin. Sour cherry, a little bonfire ash, earthy spice, slightly jubey with time. In the mouth it's sourly juicy with savoury cherry, earthy notes, talc textured drying tannins, long. Nice.
  • 2016 Louis Max Pinot Noir Bourgogne Beaucharme - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
From Coravin. Pretty jubey red berry fruit with a slight spiced underpin and a smidge of wood glue and red currant. Juicy, wild raspberry and strawberry, slight spice, light textured burr. Simple. Easy.
  • 2016 Jobard-Morey Meursault Rouge - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
From Coravin. A little controlled whole bunch, jubey ripe berry fruit; a touch jammy in fact, sweet spice, a little cedar. juicy acidity, ripe berries, medium minus intensity chalky textured grip. Medium plus length, quite new world. Nice.

Usual enjoyment ensued as I went through these like a hot knife through butter...nom nom nom
