Supper at Lorne with friends | (61 page views) | 1/10/2023 (Lorne Restaurant, London) |
| Last minute get-together to enjoy some nice bottles at a restaurant I've been wanting to visit for ages Whites - 2008 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Gorgeous nose here from first pouring, first impression is of lemon oil and a little talc also there is a subtle scraped vanilla pod. Palate has great precision and a lovely lick of acidity. Great texture to this wine. With time there is a little tutti fruiti to the nose and finally a touch of hazelnut brittle. As its flight mate improves the final sips of this wine (about 45 mins after first opening) show a gentle fading. (93 pts.)
- 2015 Olivier Leflaive Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Marc - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Much paler than its flight mate, this opens with a charming note of slatey mountain stream. There is a subtle grapefruit pith note and a little lime zest which is also apparent on the palate. With some air a little rose petal florality emerges. Soars with the sea bream tartare starter. Gorgeous wine. (93 pts.)
Reds - 2010 Denis Berthaut Fixin 1er Cru Les Arvelets - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Fixin 1er Cru
Grated 85% cocoa dark chocolate on the nose (we got a velvetiser for Christmas and I have been experimenting with various chocolates!) something meaty and a tad feral too. Palate take a little time to unfurl but when it does there are some lovely dark fruits, a little marzipan and a hint of sweet cassia bark. More northern Rhoney than many Burgs but my cup and tea and lovely foil to the onglet it was served with. (92 pts.)
- 2012 Mark Haisma Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Chaffots - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Feral cherryade nose to start with some lovely animale interest. Some sappy red fruits here as well in the tart redcurrant spectrum. A little banana leaf emerges as it warms in the glass. Lovely balance to the palate, acidity just à point and also a great match for the onglet and accompaniments. (91 pts.)
- 2010 Domaine Tortochot Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corvées - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Bright cranberry and hosehip on the nose here. The faintest hint of marzipan too. Palate lovely and savoury with great balance. With time in the glass there is a little pomegranate to add to the mix. Very agreeable end to the evening. (92 pts.)
Lorne did us proud including an olive oil tasting with its Sicilian producer before we really got onto the wines. Will look to return before too long. |
