Sadly the Jadot Meister, Richard was unwell and unable to attend; galling after all his work pulling the evening together.

Gougères

Crab Cake, Bitter Leaves and Orange Salad, Brown Crab Sauce

  • 2009 Louis Jadot Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Amazing nose. Screams top, top white Burgundy. Could sniff it for hours. Lime oil, a couple of ppm of passionfruit coulis, a couple of Stroopwafel crumbs. Such pedigree. Palate very youthful for its age but one senses it would be brilliant for many years to come. I don't drink enough Montrachet to be able to place it in the pantheon but this was one of the finest white wines I have tasted. Mine and the table's wine of the night (96 pts.)

Wild Mushroom Fettuccini, Cep Foam

  • 2011 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Smoky rose hip and sliced plums. A couple of ppm of bitumen and some carved ham. Palate also has a nod to Nebbiolo. With air some bresaola emerges, some Christmas spice hints too and delicate red fruits. (90 pts.)
  • 1998 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Bright redcurrants on the nose with some marrons glacées as well as something high-toned, Ian thinks nail polish remover I know what he means, this element has a lemony streak as well. It is most noticeable on pouring and fades into the background somewhat. There are also some roasting juices with time. Palate is crisp, red fruited and pleasantly acidic. Great food wine. Prefer this of the two Ursules. (91 pts.)

Venison Wellington

  • 2009 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Celebration - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Smoky redcurrants on the nose. Some plum fruit and a hint of cocoa dusted cranberries too. Palate gloriously rich, some sweet smoky damsons, a little pepper and a couple of ppm of bacon fat. (92 pts.)
  • 2015 Louis Jadot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Guettes Domaine Gagey - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Initially some Eau de Cologne on the nose, this fades to a degree there's some marzipan and a hint of dulce de leche sweetness alongside some lovely red fruits. Palate has red currants and some sour cherries. Good acidity. My 3rd favourite wine of the night. (92 pts.)

Cheese

  • 1967 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Mahogany in appearance as one would expect, this wine starts with something a little Balsamic on the nose with some mushrooms and lovely tertiary forest floor qualities. Nice and savoury. It opens out in the glass over the first 10 minutes some noticed it fading over time but whilst in my glass it held on pretty well. The table's 3rd favourite wine of the night and a treat to try such a cracking mature Pinot. (92 pts.)
  • 2002 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
So much going on here, darker fruits than some of the other wines we've tried. There's some charred banana leaf, some blueberries and a couple of ppm of Quink ink. Palate is cool fruited, slightly spicy and with a hint of white flowers. So complete. My and the table's second favourite wine of the night. (94 pts.)

Cheese

  • 1998 Château La Tour Blanche Sauternes - France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Intense quince paste character some sliced ripe apricot and a little passion fruit. Great length with a lovely line of acidity to counter the honeyed core with some grated lime zest notes. With air some marzipan touches too. (91 pts.)

Bar one horribly corked Grand Echezeaux, the wines showed well. Mathieu and the team in the kitchen did a great job
