Zinfandel - Napa. (Also on Ep. #530); COLOR-dark; NOSE-just gorgeous cassis; ripping with blackberry jam & cassis; also very beautiful black & white pepper component; TASTE-this wine is getting better; the absolute gorgeous black fruit (blackberries, blueberries & huckleberries); very intense; very dark, but not over-oaked; getting the truthfulness of the good bright Howell Mountain fruit; quintessential textbook quality Zinfandel; great length; pure power; some great bitter dark bittersweet chocolate tannins; gives this some back-end dryness; will last 5-10 years easy; GV-No Score No Score points

Primitivo - Italy. #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-really dark fruit and chocolate; not over-the-top like many CA Zins; more Old World w/ some sweaty sock action; smells smooth; some red beet action; black currant for sure; little hint of black pepper; PALATE-this is the kind of Old World wine that I love; black tea; grilled meat; very juicy; nice roundness; quite gamey; grape and plum flavors; a little fig and some sharpness on the back-end (a little wood mixed w/ tannins; black tea; dark chocolate); very well made; VERY Old World; AG-90; GV-No Score

Pinot Noir - Burgundy. (Imported by Kermit Lynch); COLOR-medium & vibrant red; NOSE-really sour cherry; a little pine needle on the back-end; some sand & dirt action; a little basil on the back-end; very pretty & classic nose; TASTE-Wow!!; classic Old World style w/ some bright fruit; very floral; rose petals; a little Rosemary; bright fruit (strawberries); this is textbook real Pinot Noir the way it should be; this is really good; big explosive fruit; great complexity; this could easily pass as a $65-%70 Red Burgundy; how can you not like the gorgeous sour cherry; I'm very impressed; GV-91 91 points

W_White Bordeaux . #4; COLOR-golden; NOSE-this shows nice balance as it is initially grassy and herbaceous; but then some minerality and creaminess on the back-end; PALATE-an intense tartness; also a hair light and hollow on the mid-palate, but has a nice sour pineapple action; the herbaceous follows from the nose as well; light and easy; GV-88+ 88+ points

W_Riesling - Rheingau, Germany. #3; COLOR-medium golden; NOSE-like sparkling apple Cava; a little sugar cane as well; PALATE-really good acidity on the back-end, but light and very creamy; almost like a peach puree with a little hint of seltzer on top because of the acidity on the back-end; very nice balance; this is showing very well; a great buy at $14 bones; this is "delightful"; peaches, apples and pears; GV-89+ 89+ points

Chateauneuf du Pape - Rhone. #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-some big chalkiness; cranberries; a little creaminess; and some sour cherry; very aggressive as "you can smell the tannins"; a little gaminess; beautiful sour cherries coming through; perfumed; very clean and very focused nose; PALATE-there's a big mouthfeel; very aggressive tannin on the back-end; this is a very big wine (should decant); the sour cherry and cranberry is dominating this wine; a little floral and gamey action as well; this is a very serious and complete wine; quite sensational and spectacular for $38 bones; JR-92/94; RP-93; GV-93 93 points

Malbec - Argentina. #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-amazing vanilla and black currant action; smells like a delicious dessert; very creamy; PALATE-this has explosive juiciness; like chocolate covered maraschino cherries; this has a delicious factor and is very big; a MASSIVE wine, however the fruit a juiciness is delightful; very smooth; great wine for Thanksgiving; really structured and powerful; would benefit from an hour or two of decanting; this is SPECTACULAR; will last 10-15 years; JM-92+; ST-93; GV-93/94 (93-94) points

Bordeaux - St. Emilion. #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-great red fruit (raspberries, cherries, strawberries); a nice creaminess; a little oak, but not over-the-top; PALATE-good firm tannins; great backbone structure; LOVE IT !! this is SPECTACULAR !!! I love the bitterness and the backbone; big boy wine; great complexity; power and finesse at the same time; velvety smooth; a green bell pepper and sour pickle action on the back-end which I love for my palate; would do well w/ 3-4 years of cellaring; I love the power and the polish; GV-90 90 points

COLOR-golden; NOSE-tight; a little orange peel & some minerality (blue stone); some oaky creaminess; some perfume action and some pineapple starting to come through; TASTE-this has some oomph; some nice length; a heavy wine w/ a mouthfeel that coats your palate; has subtle oak, but then some more acid than most Chards; almost Chablis like; you get the weight, creaminess & oak of a Chard, but the floral, ripeness, tropical fruit/acidity of the other varietals (Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Orange Muscat); has weight, but is not over-oaked; GV-88/90 (88-90) points
